Refrigerator broke, insulin temp question

So I'm not sure when it happened but it seems like sometime between this morning and 3pm today our refrigerator stopped working. It stayed shut for the most part but when I noticed, mostly everything in the fridge wasn't cold anymore.

I have a brand new unopened vial of ProZinc in there. I'm trying to fix the fridge but in the meantime I have it in a fridge drawer sitting on top of a gel/dry ice pack (the packs that are sent in the box when his insulin gets delivered).

Should this be okay? If I can't fix it within the next hour or so I'm going to go buy a mini fridge for the time being.

Thank you for linking me that thread, that was sweet of you. It did say this:
studies indicate Prozinc should stay stable up to 28 days at room temperature up to temps of 78 degrees F.
So I'm hoping his insulin is good, he got his shot about an hour ago so I'll find out soon enough.

Again I'm so sorry.
 
Thank you so very much Chloe </3 It's hard but there's still other sugar kitties needing help! This compilation was actually done as a result of my own power going out right after I'd bought some Prozinc for her! I was able to keep it cool with lots of ice stored in a deep freezer.

Someone can correct me but I believe since the manufacturer said it is still good up to 78 degrees that it is fine, but it may shorten the lifespan of the vial. Usually Prozinc is good for 3 months or so, so keep that in the back of your mind in the future if you see Oscar's numbers going off for no reason.

That's really sweet of you, I like having you around because there aren't many members on this board as familiar with Prozinc as you are!

So I actually called Oscar's vet and they told me to throw it away if it was warm at any point. I told them it was room temp for a couple hours but it's cold now and they still told me I'd probably have to toss it. So then I called the manufacturer and the lady on the phone reiterated the study above, said it was totally fine as long as it's in it's original box. I'm expecting it probably wouldn't last as long but Oscar goes through a vial per month (usually).
 
Yes, most members here are either never on Prozinc or switched so quickly not a lot of people are comfortable offering advice on it. I am happy to help where I can.
Sounds like your vet is just playing it safe but I would trust the manufacturer. :)

Elizabeth, we would love and treasure your help with Prozinc members. Both here in Feline Health and in the Prozinc ISG forum.

Help! I'm drowning over there by myself!!! Send the lifeboats, toss the life saver rings, throw out a life vest or 2.;)

Oh and don't think I forgot about you, Deb! You and Elizabeth are my little go-to ProZinc team. Oscar asks about you all the time ;)
 
Chloe, getting Oscar through that DKA episode was one scary time, but you did it. It's why WE can never forget about you and Oscar. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

And you did get him through the DKA, with a lot of care on your own at home. You were absolutely fantastic taking care of him, with the help of your boyfriend.
