To keep things exciting during covid19, a power line caught fire nearby about an hour ago and I have no power. It was pretty big and it looked like it was snowing. I had to brush ashes off both cats :(The estimated time to get it up and running again according to DWP is 9pm, meaning at least 4 hours with no power. I assume the insulin in the fridge should be fine and I don’t intend on opening said fridge till there’s power again, but what if it’s out overnight? It’s also going to be fun testing Minnie without being able to nuke the sock and warm her ear properly :nailbiting:

It still should be fine in the morning. Many of us have accidentally left insulin out overnight and it was fine. You may want to move towards the back of the refrigerator, since that will remain cooler longer.
Okay I just realized I will have to open the fridge to get the insulin for her pm shot. I’ll move it then. Any thoughts on how to warm up her ear? I guess o can rub it and hope for the best  we need a thinking emoji btw ha!

I saw someone took a pill bottle and filled it with warm water and held it on the ear
You know a prescription pill bottle you may have

From the Health Links forum, a good place to hunt for answers: Power outages and insulin storage

I personally have done test and shoot via candlelight. In my skiing supplies I have some of those little hand warmer packets. They are a bit warm so you might have to put something around them, but they do in a pinch to warm the ear. I'm lucky that hot water is gas, not power. Having a power out kit can come in handy.

Thanks! I’ll have to look into something like that to keep at hand. I can’t get the stove or the hot water, I have a tankless heater, to work when power is out. I guess I could have tried to warm something under a candle light but there would have taken a while...
