? Panteras numbers

Have you decided what dosing method you are following yet.?
Depending on the method you have or haven’t earned a reduction. it’s best not to keep changing the dose or you will mess up the depot and get wonky numbers.
He’s had three different doses in the last three cycles. The depot carries over to the next cycle.

I don't know what I'm doing and I'm panicking. He was only 4.4 this morning and I thought you didn't shoot at small numbers. I'm so confused. If I leave it and stay the same then do I still shoot no matter what his readings are?

You are doing fine. It is scary in the beginning. you just need to choose a dosing method so that you can follow it. It is much easier that way.
There is the tight regulation where you reduce the dose if the BG drops under 2.8 and can increase each three days and you need to be feeding canned food only , no dry OR the start low go slow method where you reduce under 5 and you hold the doses for 7 days before increasing. You may be better with the SLGS, it is less aggressive and you can swap later if you like.
I think you would be ok with 1.5 units but you have to be comfortable with it.
Otherwise you could reduce to 1.25 units and you would need to stay with that for 7 days.

Ok thank you he has been from 1 unit up to 6 units back to 4 then 2 now 1.5 maybe his pancreas has kicked back in? Maybe he isn't diabetic? Was miss diagnosed these are the thoughts that run through my head. Then I freak out if it's low not knowing if the food will change the reading in a big way. I gave him 1 unit and I will stick to that the only time I won't shoot is if it's under 2.7 and yes he is completely on wet food only. It looks like his numbers went down the day after I started him on lower carb

He is doing very well for a newly diagnosed cat. Maybe his pancreas is healing a bit. That is why it is good to test.
It looks like you will do the TR method. Can you put that into your signature please so we are aware.
You reduce if it’s under 2.8 (50)
I would NOT shoot lower than 6 at the moment but you can gradually lower the BG number you shoot as you gather data.
Make sure you have high carb food in the house so you can raise the numbers if needed

Thankyou again you are a big help in times of stress. I am truly grateful
It’s a pleasure. I do remember feeling the same.
Remember you are in control if you are testing. If he drops low you can raise the BG by feeding low carb food if it’s over 3 (50) or if it’s lower, bring out the high carb food and feed that. Always have honey too as that can be rubbed on the gums if absolutely necessary.
If you get a low number in the first 3 or 4 hours, it is OK to feed a bit of higher carb food to bring the numbers up but in the later part of the cycle when the insulin is wearing off, low carb is usually enough.
Remember if you get a BG lower than 6 (110) at the moment, stall don’t feed, post and ask for help and test again in 20 mins. You will be able to reduce your no shot number as you gain data.

are you feeding during the cycles as well as preshot?
