A friend mentioned her dog is on Tylan Powder for his intestinal issues. Since I’m struggling getting Minnie’s nausea regulated with oneprazol and/or Pepcid, she suggested it. Minnie is on already so much, but before I asked her vet, I was wondering if anyone here has experience with it and cats.

Thanks!

It’s so much easier with dogs. I attempted it with one cat but he wouldn’t eat the food with it. Are you still going ondansetron? That’s for nausea. I was given Tylan for diarrheabut not for nausea.
Yes still on ondansetron but she still wakes up nauseated like Friday and today. I’ve tried omeprazol and now Pepcid. Yeah I looked it up and it seems to be more for colitis, which is what my friends dog had. I hear ya. I suffer trying to get Minnie to eat the probiotics. Basically anything I can’t put in a pill pocket is torture :banghead:

Have you ever tried cerenia?
Yes it was the first thing the vet prescribed. It didn’t work for Minnie. It actually made her more nauseated and then she wouldn't eat at all. Also you can’t give Cerenia everyday. What I like about ondansetron is that she can take it daily and it has no side effects. The problem is the timing. She can only take it twice a day and it only lasts about 8-10 hours so there is always going to be a few hours when she’s not covered and I think that’s the issue in the mornings

Tylan tastes foul. He only way I could give it to a cat was in a gel cap.

Cerenia can in fact be given every day. Though it sounds like it wasn’t helping. For GI issues, Pepcid may be making things worse. Some reading. Worth discussing with your vet.
This is a great site and where I discovered SEB and aloe Vera juice. We went from omeprazol to
Pepcid. I want to transition her to hounds and gatos which she really likes and has more fat and less carbs but I was told to wait till a do another blood panel to rule out lack of potassium and electrolytes. I’m in between vets because her latest is pregnant and not practicing now with covid so the nutritionist is the only consistent vet at this point :(

Half a 4mg? That’s what I gave Max. Every eight hours is fine. At first I didn’t have the right dose and had to give cyproheptadine too. Once I got dosing right I rarely needed an appetite stimulant.
Yeap, 1/2 of 4mg so 2 mg. I’ll stop the Pepcid and try that for the next few days. It will be more like every 7 hours for the math to be right. Thanks!

Okay so after reading the info on the link agar agar is bad and it’s on Hounds and Gatos which is what I was going to transition Minnie to, but it doesn’t really say what other cat foods in the market are best. It feels like she’s saying the only option is home made raw food. Do you agree?

I personally fed raw food. Have you checked out Ziwipeak? They have some canned novel protein options.
I fed her Smallbatch and I was a big fan because you can either buy their raw protein and mix in whatever you want or the sliders, which is what I got that already came with all the nutrients etc but I knew very little at the time and I definitely overfed her. She gained weight and that’s when she was diagnosed with diabetes so I pulled her off of it. I feel like all vets are opposed to raw and don’t know much about it at all and then can’t really guide you on portions and stuff :arghh:
I’ll loot into ziwipeak, thanks!

So all these brands seem to have something that link you posted warn against like agar agar, peas and look at what Ziwipeak has:

I think she’s advocating raw but I may have found one brand that doesn’t have any ingredient red flags. It’s called Rawz and I’m going to get a can or two at my local pet store to see if Minnie will tolerate it. Fingers crossed!

I went on that link again and it says a few things are bad like peas and agar agar and hounds and gatos has the latter. The Ziwipeak has DL-Methionine which is “A carb “red flag:” Meat is high in methionine, an amino acid used by many companies as a urine acidifier. If the synthetic version, “DL-methionine” is supplemented, especially if you find it towards the top of the supplement list in commercial food ingredients, alarm bells should go off; this is an indication the food does not contain protein primarily from meat or that the food is otherwise high in carbohydrates. Those carbs make the entire GI system, not just the stomach, too alkaline, and this can lead to various issues, among them”
I know she’s advocating for raw homemade but I found a brand that doesn’t seem to have any red flags called Rawz. My local pet store carries it so I’ll get a can or two to see if Minnie will tolerate it
