? NEED DOSING ADVICE SHOULD I GO BACK TO SHOOTING 0.25

Hi guys if you would look at Tyler's SS he was really having a good run of greens every now and then
All of a sudden his pre shots have been rising to blues
Even though they were blue he still dropped to good numbers during each cycle, so obviously the 0.10 dose has been working

The lantus pen expires 4-2021 and I started the pen on 12-30-2019
So let's say it's coming up on almost 4 months I have been using it, am I correct

Since all of these blue pre shots have been showing up do you think I should go back to shooting 0.25 , that is the dose he started with when I switched to lantus, SLGS
Then on 1-2-2020 he earned a reduction and starting shooting the 0.10

Started TR on 1-6-2020

Any thoughts or should I just stuck it out for awhile and stay with the 0.10

Do you think 0.25 may make him drop too low only because

On 4-15-2020 he dropped to 65 day cycle and 63 during the night cycle
Then 65 on 4-17-2020 day cycle these were all shooting the 0.10 dose

By the way I totally forgot where 0.25 is on the syringes half markings
Would it be in between the 0 line and the 0.5 mark

Just tested tonight 4-22-2020 it was 66@+4.5 so the lantus is still good obviously, now wondering if I were to shoot the 0.25 he would have dropped lower,is that correct

Thanks guys

First a question for you, I noticed your feeding times are different most days. Is there a reason for that?

Hi Wendy, Tyler doesn't have set feeding times during the cycles
If I decide to test him @+3 then I'll feed him some FF Pate, then I'll wait until he may beg to eat

Are there usually set times that people feed their cats
Would appreciate your advice
Should it be something like @+3 then @+6 . and then @+9 (+9 would be at 5:30 pm)
Then from @+9 make him wait until pre shot PMPS at 8:30

Tonight @+ 4.5 he was 66 how, wondering how low would he have dropped if I
Shot 0.25. Thank you Wendy

I tend to think that our kitties are creatures of habit. Setting a feeding schedule may help. I'd also suggest seeing if feeding Tyler later in the cycle causes his pancreas to kick in and produce it's own insulin and thereby lower the pre-shot numbers. When kitties are doing as well as Tyler, it's likely that his pancreas is waking up so food may end up lowering numbers vs raising them.

I can try a feeding schedule, but sometimes hesy just not hungry
So you wouldn't suggest raising his dose @Sienne and Gabby (GA)

I think what Sienne was saying is try feeding a small snack about +9 each cycle and see if it brings his PS numbers down before you try changing the dose. This sometimes works if the cat's pancreas is starting to work.
OK will try his +9 day cycle is 5:30 pm
And his +9 at night cycle is 5:30 am
So obviously do both sorry just saw you said both cycles @carfurby

Diane, you could increase the dose to 0.25U again, but you might need to do a reduction again quickly if Tyler gets another low number.

Try the food change first, with that +9 feeding at both cycles, before you increase the insulin dose.
Changing too many factors at once, makes it difficult to know which change made the difference.

@Deb & Wink ok I'll try the food change first, what's going to be a killer is that 5:30 am feeding which is @+9, but will set the alarm. What you mean is that 0.25 may drop him to low is that correct Thanks Deb

The reason I asked asked about a feeding schedule is that I had noticed a couple times when you fed later that his AMPS was green. You do a good job taking notes on his feedings. Good luck with the experiment. Do you have an autofeeder that can do the PM+9 feeds?

hey Wendy ok I see what you are saying, no auto feeder but he wakes me up through the wee hours of the morning anyway, I will set my alarm to make sure he eats
If he's not waking me up it's his brother, both are pain in the butt, but going to try it and hopefully it might work

It's just weird that I wasn't doing anything different when he was having a good run of green, going to look over his SS again. Thank you

Thanks for replying back Sienne

Hey guys I did what you all suggested try feeding Tyler @+9 for both cycles to see if I can get his pre shot numbers green

Well I started doing this on 4-23-2020 night cycle and so far all green pre shots for both cycles, just had one high BG on 4-24-2020 on the night cycle @+3 which was 105 other than that all green pre shots
I just hope it continues
I can't thank you all enough for suggesting I try that
Take a look at his SS starting on 4-23-2020 night cycle and my remarks that are there
Thanks again keep your fingers crossed it keeps up:bighug::cat:

Hey Guys I got busy this afternoon and forgot to feed Tyler @+9 this afternoon 4-26-20
His PMPS was 132
This may prove that he needs to be fed @+9 in order to keep getting these green pre shots because so far it's been working
I guess I will find out when I feed him @+9 tonight 4-26-20 and see what his AMPS turns out to be, should be interesting

Well back to green AMPS 81. 4-27-20 and PMPS- 84
Guess it proves he needs to be fed at +9 both cycles
