Hi,

Yesterday

I'm not sure what to do, his BG is 64 pre-shot but I already skipped yesterday morning and he's only at 0.25U
I fed him 2 hours earlier, because I realized he was not eating even close to his daily calories, he became a bit picky with food and in the midst of trying different kinds of food, I didn't notice. But now he's eating fine after trying some tricks.

Wow!! Just goes to show you how much the diet has to do with the numbers, doesn't it?

I'd skip again and get a test or two in during the cycle just to see what happens.

It's totally possible that the diet change was enough to get him into remission!

He is certainly responding well to the change of food.
You beat me to it Chris!

Great, thanks!
So I can feed him now? :)

It’s great to see him doing so well with just a change of food.
He’s gorgeous. Reminds me of my cat Harry

Hi again,

I need some dosing advice. Please check his ss. Zokni has been in the blues and greens despite not getting his AM shot.
But I want to follow @Gill & George 's advice to keep insulin to support his healing.
What can be the dose?

Wow, Zokni is looking great!

Under TR, Zokni has not yet earned another reduction, so you would stick with the 0.25U for now. But, as others have noted, he's looking like he's on the fast track to remission, so you'll probably be reducing again soon. There are a couple more stops left on the dosing ladder, most people do 0.1 next.

The sticky Insulin Care & Syringe Info: Proper Handling, Drawing, Fine Dosing, has pictures of the tiny doses (I'd copy them here, but I'm seeing a watermark for Photobucket that I never saw before and it is obscuring things; hoping it's just because I don't have some plugin and your view is clear!)

Thanks! These are exactly the pictures I’ve been looking for. I’ve seen them once but couldn’t remember where they were :)

I’ve been skipping the morning shots these past days and I’m not entirely comfortable with that. It would be much easier to monitor him during the day. Can I skip tonight and just do the morning shot?

Hmmm..... You could skip tonight, but then after you shoot in the morning he'll probably be in lower numbers tomorrow night, and you'll have to decide again. You don't want to set yourself up with an expectation that you will be skipping one shot per day, which it sounds like you might end up doing.

Here's another thought: how about shooting tonight, and then if he's back down in lower numbers in the morning (like the 50's and 60's you've been seeing), think about starting to shoot those numbers, too. If it happened that way, it would be good timing because you can monitor all day. Getting to a strong remission with insulin support will almost certainly involve shooting numbers like that at some point, right?

That said, you have to be comfortable with what you are doing, so it's up to you. Skipping tonight wouldn't set you back in any meaningful way-- Zokni seems to be pretty determined to get where he's going!

That's really good advice, thanks. But what insulin dose would I shoot for these low numbers? In that case would I need to reduce before or try the 0.25 with tight monitoring?

If you are finding you are having to skip cycles because of low numbers, the other option is to reduce the dose, so you can shoot both cycles.
If you reduced to 0.1 unit you would hopefully be able to continue the insulin each cycle, and not have to skip cycles.. Keeping the insulin going for longer will help with a stronger remission.
He hasn’t technically earned a reduction but when cycles are being skipped like you are doing, we sometimes suggest reducing the dose to see if the insulin can be given more consistently.
