I am so upset. His before insulin reading this morning was 406. I was really eager to give him his insulin injection after waiting an hour after he ate.

I really thought I got the needle in since I could see his skin. But after the injection, his fur was wet. It was not just a little wet but probably the whole injection.

I am new to this and have only been
giving injections for a week. The needles are so tiny that you don't feel a puncture and neither does my cat. But now, if his readings are high one day, how do I know if I got the insulin injected?

I wish they made a needle with an indicator to let you know when it punctured the skin. I would pay anything for a device like this.

Siiigh frustrating isnt it? I remember furshots and I followed the instruction, since you cant know how much did go in...better high one day than too low for a minuet.. Dont know if that protocol has changed, I doubt it. Hang on for more advice.

I worry about that a lot because when I started I did do a few fur shots too. What works for me is using a small flashlight. Don’t laugh but I got a pocket one that I can hold in my mouth and aim it at the spot then I can see way better and even if there’s still some fur around, I can spot a little skin and aim the needle there. I use it during the day and at night. Even when Minnie is outside in the sun, it helps a ton. Kinda like when you use the flash on your camera outside during the day.

What syringes are you using? I prefer the 29 gauge which is the long needle. Here’s the one I used before switching to the 1/2 units. It was easier for me to see and feel the needle going in and I got them from Chewy:

My needles are U-100 BD Veo 6mm length 31 gauge. It says ultra-fine needle. The needle is tiny. I just checked his blood glucose again. It has about an hour and a half since I gave the injection. His glucose is 398 and that is after eating. It has not dropped much so maybe he got some of it. I will check out the longer needles that you recommended.
Maybe if I just pull his skin up towards me instead of trying to make a pouch I will have better luck. I am just happy that his glucose has dropped a little.

This is a great deal! I find the site on the expensive side as the test strips I use are twice as much as on affordablediabetic. Odd how certain things are priced high and others low. Thanks!
