Freckles decided to go and see what the sharks were doing last night. She didn't stay there long as I was on to her plan early in the morning, but it was a long night for sure.
Every time I got up to check Ms. Freckles, I checked in on DH and he went out and checked the cows. It was -16 C (3.2 F) last night, -20 C (-4 F)with the windchill factored in - too cold for anyone to be born!
Before we actually went to bed late last night, we had to warm and dry off a newborn calf and then the mother was kicking at it, not letting it suck... poor little guy. So the mom got back hobbles on so she couldn't kick and once the pressure on her udder was released from the calf sucking, she was much better and stood nicely and the hobbles came off.
During the early hours of the morning another baby calf was born - momma likes him, he's dry, warm and has a full belly - all is well.
Freckles got a BCS (Big Chicken Shot) for AM insulin this morning to help drain the depot a bit - as per suggestion the last time Freckles went lime. I gave her 2/3 of her usual 11.5 u which is about 7.7 u (I use a caliper so the measuring was more accurate).
A question for @Wendy&Neko is the drain of the depot (7.7u) a one time deal then Freckles goes back to her regular dosage tonight or does it take a bit longer to drain some of the depot (I realize it's all dependent on her numbers today, but just so I have a better understanding of the depot)?
I think there will be plenty of cat naps for EVERYONE today!
