? 2020-04-10 Djoko - AMPS 34.9; +4 24.8; +7 15.9; +9 11.6 - is it normal that he drops that much ?

Hello,
I am performing a BG curve today on Djoko and I am wondering if his drop is normal (rainbow cat) especially when using a so-called flat and peakless insulin!
We are thinking of increasing his dose to 1.5 but I am nervous (as always with him!) because he has the ability to get into these low values. With 1.25, he went from 34.9 to 11.6 in 7 hours, it seems a big drop to me.
Also, is it the good insulin for him? Based on today values (and other days), it appears that his nadir happens late in the day e.g. normally between +7 and +10. As such. he spends most of his day in "bad" values.
Any thougts?

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Lately, DJ has benn vomitted more than once per week. I am wondering if he has not a cancer or something like that.
:S

Sometimes they just puke...most likely a little GI upset...I wouldn't fast forward to CA without having an ultrasound or other vet evals first to determine what's going on there.

Djoko is due for an increase. You're following SLGS so you can increase after 14 cycles if you've not seen any nadirs below 200...I'd say those two brief encounters several days ago wouldn't hold me back from increasing. Please do try to get a midcycle test once you increase. Hopefully tonight?

Hi Marj - you will get more eyes on your posts if you report the numbers in mg/dL instead of mmol/L. The majority of members here are American and they haven't made the switch to metric yet. You can get those numbers from the US tab on your spreadsheet.

I think it's time to try 1.5 units again. You want his nadirs between 90 and 150, and they aren't there yet.

It's not normal for cats to vomit regularly, especially in combination with the diarrhea you reported previously. It could be some hairballs, but that shouldn't be ongoing. One possibility is a food allergy or IBD. I would keep track of what protein you are feeding, such as beef, chicken, turkey, and see if there is a vomit in relation to that. Beef, fish and chicken can be common allergens. Maybe try lamb, venison, duck or something different. If it's not that, then a vet visit will eventually be in order.

What does GI stand for? His ears hut so much. Every time we test him he moves and tear up one of his tear. Both his ears are twiching now.
The goal was to increase tonight. I may be able to do a +5 (shot time is at 8pm). Now he seems in pain, not moving with his eyes closed. I am wondering if the testing has caused him stress. He was very grumpy.
Poor Djoko. His life is not the sweestest these days..

My vet talked about changing his diet to an hypoallergique diet but it is too high in carbs.

GI = gastrointestinal

Don't go for the hypoallergenic diet. There are commercially available foods with alternate proteins that are low carb.

I will put american values next time. What about the drop ? It is fairly high. I am scared that with 1.5, although I recognize he needs an icnrease, that he will go down again. with1.25, he can drop 23 (world value).
This is insane.

any recommendation? I looked at the catinfo.org.
He eats FF which is very high in fat, Weruva and B.B.F. I keep FF because sometimes he does not like the two other brands.

Canada Fresh has some options, so does Natures Variety, Ziwipeak and possibly Koha. Plus Wellness Core (turkey and duck), Rawz and Identity if you can find it.

I don't think all the Canada Fresh are low carb, some have peas higher in the ingredients. The other products I mentioned I have bought in Canada.
What did you switch to Levemir?
Neko had two secondary endocrine conditions that can mean the cat needs higher doses. The Lantus acid base can sting at higher doses. Plus she was less bouncy cause it had better duration in her.

OK. Perhaps this is something to look for with DJoko. According to vet, he has now Dx, pancreatitis and IBD...but no confirmation.
Thank you!
