@Deb & Wink

So if you could take a look at Louis' latest numbers, I'd appreciate an opinion. I would love to get to some sort of "normal". I am concerned about his neuropathy not improving despite 2x daily of Zobaline. I know he needs to get his BG stable for this supplement to work. He's not getting worse but not better either. If you need to tell me to be patient again, I can take it. Just feeling anxious....

As always thanks for all you do here. I finally found and read the glossary. OMG. Now I know what "GA" means for so many of you. And you are still here helping us. God bless you and your AngelCats.

Happy to take a look at the SS and see what is going on.

Those > 400 reds and the > 500 blacks say a bounce. Louis has basically been bouncing since the reduced dose on 4/5/20, but you were still gathering data, so that reduced dose was the safe move. Then Louis dropped into the 100's (blues) on 4/6 am and bounced up again.

But I think you actually want to increase the dose again, back to 3U, unless he clears the bounce this AM and is lower at pre-shot tonight. I think you can lower the decision making threshold for shoot, stall, skip to 150.

"Bouncing - Bouncing is simply a natural reaction to what the cat's system perceives as a BG value that is "too low". "Too low" is relative. If a cat is used to BGs in the 200's, 300's, or higher for a long time, then even a BG that drops to 150 can trigger a "bounce". Bouncing can also be triggered if the blood glucose drops too low and/or too fast.The pancreas, then the liver, release glucogon, glycogen and counter-regulatory hormones. The end result is a dumping of "sugar" into the bloodstream to save the cat from going hypoglycemic from a perceived low. The action is often referred to as "liver panic" or "panicky liver". *Usually*, a bounce will clear kitty's system within 3 days (6 cycles)."

Customizing the SS to help you is perfectly fine. I had the days of the week on Wink's.

p.s. I've never had the desire to change my user name to include the GA, but it's there in my signature, after each of my cat's names that I have lost. Wink's 3 year anniversary of his death was yesterday. I celebrated the full moon with him. :) His profile in my signature tells some of his story. It's kind of sad, so you might not want to read it. :arghh:

@Deb & Wink
So based on what you said yesterday do you think I should increase to 3.0 now? Just gave him shot of 2.75. So I would increase tonight. This is a bouncy boy! Is it ever going to be possible to get him stable? I overdosed him for so long....
Yes, I think an increase to 3U for tonight would be fine. As long as his pre-shot test is not a low surprise, <150 mg/dL.

I see that Louis was not very hungry yesterday. Is he eating better today?

Great thanks....I don' want to bug you for my every move, but I am still on wobbly legs here.

No he was hungry....He's just so damn finicky. I've thrown out more CF than he eats. He loves something for awhile then all of a sudden he won't eat it. I only feed FF classics. But he needs lots of variety. I usually wait him out for a few hours then end up giving him something else. He's all over the place with food. He really loves the Hill's Glucose Support M/D dry food. But I stopped giving him that a couple months ago when I was getting the high numbers all the time. (AMPS and PMPS).

My husband gave him something he liked at 4amPST, and he's acting hungry again now 10:00am PST. So I hope I pick something he likes. UGH
TAA (thanks as always)

You're still at the "baby steps" stage in learning to treat feline diabetes. Ask away. You're still pretty new to this, and it never hurts to get that second opinion. Ask and ask again. Ask for clarifications, ask for something to be repeated. Ask...............................................

Ask all you need or want to. Did that make it clear enough for you? ;):p:joyful:

I remember having a smorgasbord, of 2-3 flavors out for Wink. He was the founding member of DFAA (Dry Food Addicts Anonymous) and it took a lot of patience to get him to eat and like the wet food instead of the dry. His favorite was the FF Turkey & Giblet. I was afraid he would start to refuse that flavor, so I'd try different ones.

One thing that really helped me, was to sprinkle some crumbled up treats on top of his food. Wink absolutely loved the Halo Liv-a-Little freeze dried treats. I'd have to crumble those on top of his food, 3-4 times each meal to get him to eat a bit more food. Bonito flakes worked too.

Eventually, he'd eat the serving of food and then eat more food with less treats crumbled on top.
I had every color patience pants imaginable in existence in my wardrobe.

I have a friend, with a 18+ year old non-diabetic cat. Her cat is the pickiest cat I've ever seen. Eats more at night than during the day. Has ALWAYS been picky and given 2-3 flavors to choose from. Rainy days seem to make her feel achy, with arthritis and she eats less. Sunny days are better as far as her eating goes.

This was my absolute favorite document, to get Wink off the dry and eating better wet food. https://catinfo.org/docs/TipsForTransitioning1-14-11.pdf

Deb, you are amazing! Thank you so much. I will ask and ask and ask.

Louis sounds a lot like Wink. I think Louis was his Vice President of DFAA.

However, I got him off the dry food really easily, during the days of my early research on this site. I am rotating all the FF Classics. I know the ones he will NOT eat at all. At first he ate the FF chicken like it was crack. Then he wouldn't. Just like JT said (above). Then it was Turkey and Giblets, then he wouldn't, then it was beef, then he wouldn't. So I learned to rotate as much as I can.

Those tips are GREAT. I have jars of Halo freeze dried Salmon all over the house it seems. He LOVES that shid! At the end of the "can" there is always a significant amount of salmon "dust" in those. I used to just give it to him in a bowl between meals. Now I will save them for when the finicky starts. Oh, and he LOVED the Pure Bites Chicken for a while.....Then he loved the Pure Bites Shrimp, for awhile.....Ugh. And so it goes. I'm afraid the Halo Salmon might be next in his finicky rotation. Then maybe I'll start back with the chicken Pure bites...

Trying to get groceries here in SoCalifornia (delivered) now is almost impossible as everyone is using delivery service (Instacart), so I'm gonna have to mask up and go to the store, as I am getting low on Lou's faves.

Never thought of Bonita flakes....Gonna get some of those.

TAA!
