Yesterday. Caber Yr 2 Day 181

So will see how this dose works. In past this dose has set off p'titis flare and dose to go back up.

Last couple of days she has been feeling good. Sunning her belly, tail half up flipping it.

Cleaned Trippers ears. Looks pretty good but I think another treatment of ointment is needed.

It's snowing, it is not suppose to accumulate. Lots of Goldfinches at the feeders. All winter I did not see Cardinals, today there at 2 pairs, also morning doves, chickadees, titmouses, some I don't know. It's all a flutter here.

Good luck with this dose, I hope it doesn't set her off this time. :bighug: Also hope Tripper's ears heal soon. :bighug:

Cold rain here but all of the above birds, plus geese, ducks and two huge ravens!! It's so noisy out there!! Love it!! :D

I love my birdfeeders, have seven of them out here in my new place I think I spent more feeding them than I do myself LOL but they sure bring a lot of enjoyment to me and the cats

On 4/1 I sent Ollie's vet and email with last 3 weeks of data to ask her opinion on something. Vet just opened her own practice and Ollie hasn't been there yet. Dr. called me today.

Ollie is sort of in limbo between the 2 practices now. Previous practice is starting to give me hard time getting the bupre and fluids because she knows I will be switching to her vet Dr A and She Dr S won't do the caber and wants her on rx food. But Dr S has been kind enough to fill the bupre and fluids until other vet is up and running.

I wanted to know how Dr A felt putting Ollie back on gabapentin. I think Ollie had a spurt of tumor activity that caused the glucoses to rise again and her wobbly walk and weak legs. Dr S is not convinced it was tumor activity. She thinks it's more arthritis and spine spondylosis, as Ollie has always has reacted to pain when touched on the back. She has said from day 1 she thinks there has been some spine injury. She was excited when I said I can brush her back and tail now. Personally I think the zobaline has helped the nerve pain more than anything else.

Anyway, we discussed the ss, she said I see a few lows but you did reduce dose at the time which was good. She agreed with the higher carb at shot time and first couple of hrs after to prevent such lows, yet can't tell if it made a difference because she still went low. The ss Dr got last dose was 5.5. I told her Ollie is now 4.5 units as of this morning.

Dr is okay for now to consult by email and phone as they can only see active sick or injured pets. And if I think Ollie really needs to be seen she will "record" her sick and I can bring her in but curbside service. I'm okay with this arrangement. Dr is up and running and I will now be able to get the bupre and fluids from her.

Ollie is going back on gabapentin every 12 hrs to start and we will adjust the bupre and gab accordingly until we get the right combo to keep her from being zonked. When she calls in the gab she will ask if the bupre can be supplied by pharmacy so I can get in mail vs making a trip to vet when needed.

Dr told me she is checking with Roadrunner pharmacy about bringing them into the practice. Not sure what she means by this.

I'm glad Ollie's isn't caught with no help because of this virus thing.

Sorry for long post.

Sounds like a thorough summary of your interaction with the vet. I hope Ollie settles out and doesn't need to be seen!

The birds sound lovely...I remember the Spring in Michigan...we could hear the red-wing blackbirds squawking and screaming, the sandhills cranking and all the birds that would visit our feeder...there aren't any of those song birds here now - just a few cardinals...and of course the eagles and sea birds...but it's different and we don't have a feeder. We have a lovely Chuck Wills widow who sings all night long every night..I've never seen that bird...but oh what a song he/she has to share with all of us nightly. As soon as the sun sets...and just up until dawn... The neighbors thought it was a whiporwill...naw...it's a Chuck Wills Widow...listen to the song it makes...lovely! https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Chuck-wills-widow/sounds

Have a great evening Paula!

Nice to see this new vet who seems to be collaborative! Olive is really low now:) !! 4.5u and greens.... who would have said that a few months ago :D:joyful: Take good care Paula !

Sounds like a promising start with the new vet. I hope all will work out well.

We are seeing more birds here now, too. The Goldfinches are beginning to get their mating plumage. Chickadees still rule the roost at my feeders. Song sparrows are around, and Redwing Blackbirds (always a sign of spring). There are a few Canada Geese on the lake. The ice on the lakes is receding and if the weather warms up a bit, we'll be going out in our canoes soon (being out on the water in a canoe is the best way to self-isolate!).
Have a good weekend, Paula

I

Lyane, she isn't new. She is the one who started the caber. She left the practice she was at and has opened her own. We are just caught in the statewide shutdown and stay home orders.

Government is now considering everyone must wear masks if you leave your house.

Alarm set for 1:30. I will get up test and make sure she eats. I have to get some sleep for work in the morning. Food is in feeders.

Paula I am so glad you have vet help there if needed. That’s so important especially with a kitty with ongoing issues.

We have vets coming out to the car and taking animals in on their own as well here in Australia. My daughter had to take one of her beloved chickens in the other day and sadly it had to be put down... it was distressing for her because she had to wait in the car.
Difficult times.
stay safe.

That's terrible. Some here will let you be with pet if they have to do that. At least for now. Hope I don't have to find out.

Bron, I am so sorry to hear about your daughter's chicken. We've never had chickens, but have always admired them for their social skills, their beauty, and their intelligence. Yesterday we stopped our car on a country road to let three chickens cross (their person across the road was putting out their food. The scene reminded me of the old childhood riddle: "why did the chicken cross the road?" "to get to the other side").
I hope that you and your family are staying healthy in these awful times. Edward and I are hanging in! Gus is good. Rusty is in our hearts.
