Ramesses numbers came down a lot today! Unfortunately I couldn’t do more BG monitoring today so I don’t have a better idea of his curve.

I am thinking I should reduce dose but not sure...? Have been doing 2.5u.

Stalling for a moment.
Thanks all,

Bob

Can you take another test 30 minutes after the first one?
When did Ramesses last eat?

Do you have HC food, test strips and available to test tonight?

I don't have much experience with reducing doses since we are usually increasing doses. Someone with more experience will come along.

Add "stalling, need advice" in your thread title.

@Judy and Freckles my schedule is pretty open since i'm working from home due to the shelter-in-place order.

SLGS

He went DKA about a year ago and we brought him back. He was clear for a long time and then recently had an episode where an infection sent him spiraling toward DKA again. We caught it early (he had some trace ketones at the time). Since then we switched from vetsulin to Basaglar and modified his diet to be low carb. Lots of changes and still trying to get into a rhythm with everything.

Did you retest the BG?
Are you able to monitor this throughout this cycle if necessary.
Do you have high carb food and honey/Karo if needed?

Just tested his BG again and it's 'HI' now. So >600. o_O Does that seem right for a food spike to be +500??

I can monitor if needed, and yes I am prepped for hypo if it happens.

Checked again. Still HIGH.

I checked it on myself as well and it was accurate for me. Maybe it was off for some reason the first time?

Maybe the 109 was an incorrect BG.
If you get a BG that is inconsistent with what has been happening, get another test just to check.
Also when you are stalling, don't feed and test again in 20 mins so the BG is not food influenced.

I think you can go ahead and give the normal dose don't you?
I would do a few tests during the first half of the cycle though just to see what he's up to.

Hello, just dropping in with a spot of pandemic-insomnia here!

It does seem likely that the 109 was a bad strip (bummer!). I think you are safe to shoot, though of course you'll want to monitor to make sure all goes well.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

His numbers are trending downward so the 109 seemed plausible.
I gave the insulin immediately after the second HI result.

Sorry for the alarm. Still learning the ropes on how to do some of this and knowing what to expect. I’ll stall correctly next time.

Thanks again!

You did the correct thing by asking for help! All good

You'll want to add this information in you signature line so it will help people who will help you with dosing.

Nice to see that spot of blue this morning. That AM +2 was probably him starting to bounce. You got some good help tonight. Don't forget to update the spreadsheet with the corrected PMPS numbers. Tomorrow is another day.
