Good luck with the new dose and starting the cabergoline. By the way, don't expect to see an immediate impact with the cabergoline, it seems to take 1-2 weeks before people see any changes.

Every once in a while it's good to have a cycle without R in it, just to see what the baseline is without it.

For the last couple of days I have thought that Maxi doesn’t feel well, and, for the first time, I just now found him in a dark corner. When I asked him to come out, though, he did immediately and was affectionate.

I had a cat, Teddy, with lymphoma, who I could tell felt much better with buprenorphine. What do you think about my giving that to Maxi? What about daily, long-term use of it? Does that have a tendency to constipate like pain medicine does with humans? He’s also taking binder for his kidney disease, and I know that can constipate although Maxi is not constipated. His poo was much softer than usual today. Maybe his stomach is upset and that’s why he doesn’t feel well. So, I’m worried about the cabergoline upsetting his stomach further.
But I want to get the cabergoline going to get the benefits of that. Confused.

First, I would consult your vet about buprenorphine for Maxi. I did end up giving it to Neko twice daily. At that point her arthritis was getting quite bad. It did make a world of difference for her. And yes, it can be a bit constipating. Though it was something I could manage with a bit of pumpkin or squash most of the time.

Also, since tonight will not be Maxi’s first cycle on 6 units of Lantus, but it will be his first dose of cabergoline, how often do you think I need to test him tonight? (I will get up periodically to see how he’s feeling after taking the cabergoline.)

Just another thought about the dark corner... I remember reading that sometimes acro cats have an aversion to the light. Sorry, I can't recall the reason behind it.
 
The cabergoline should not impact how you test this cycle.

If the acro tumour is large, it can press on the optic chiasm. Neko blinked at bright light when she was first diagnosed, didn’t stop her from going into our solarium though. Her radiation oncologist called her tumour tiny. Maybe headache related? It went away after SRT.
 
I hope Maxi's tummy was fine with the cabergoline. Looks like a little NDW tonight. Tomorrow, if you with, you can continue the R scale Sandy suggested yesterday.

It seems Maxi's tummy is ok (no clear signs it's not ok). I'm glad and hope it stays that way.
