Hey everyone! Just did Buddy’s PMPS and is a 173! This will be the lowest she has ever been when being given insulin. We usually give 1U of Prozinc, what do you suggest we do? Give the 1U of perhaps 3/4 or 1/2. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I’m sorry I have not used Prozinc so can’t give advice. I’m not sure if there is anyone around at the moment who can advise you. If you don’t get any more replies in time, you might be best to Skip the dose.

Did you stall, as Bron asked?

If you did what was the test 20 minutes later, without food being given?

p.s. This is when those +11 tests or +11.5 tests can come in really handy with Prozinc.

So that 173 and 171 are basically the same number.

How do you feel about shooting a lower number? Do you have plenty of test strips? Know what to do to bring the numbers back up if they drop too low? Are you able to stay up and test if you need to?

If so, then you might consider shooting the full 1U dose.
If you are nervous about doing that or are not able to monitor, then you should think about giving a reduced dose.
She did well on the 1U dose, with a slightly higher pre-shot, that 202 on 14/03/2020.

What do you and D'Arcey think?

p.s. I think 0.5U would be too little. IMHO

We were comfortable with shooting and went to but she was resistant and we had a fur shot we think. So we will just carry on tomorrow as normal.

thanks for everything!

Fur shots happen. simply note that on your spreadsheet.

You never want to give another insulin shot, as you can never be sure how much of the insulin may have gotten into your cat Buddy.

Eventually, you will need to learn to shot those blue numbers at pre-shot. But tonight is not the night.
Get a good night's sleep, and pick it back up in the morning.

At least now, you have discussed things and thought over your options. So next time, you'll have a better handle on what you want to do.

Unless you truly skipped the dose, I'd still record the 1U in the Units column on the SS. But put a ? after the dose and make a note in the Remarks column that you think this was a possible fur shot.
