Haven't slept all night, he dipped down to 45. Nothing seems to be raising him up past the 60s and he dropped back down into the 50s a few times.
Still monitoring him. Hoping he'll rise soon. He did go pee by himself and didn't get pee on himself this time, also a negative ketone test. There's something good at least.
Since he was eating small meals all night trying to get him higher he won't eat his breakfast now. May have to rub more corn syrup up his gums if he doesn't eat.
Hope everyone's day goes well.

Not sure why I didn't do this earlier but I tried my other meter. Verio is showing 79, Contour is showing 67.

:bighug::bighug::bighug: When Amethyst was in the hospital Oct 31,2019 they gave her way too much insulin:arghh: I could not keep her up the night I brought her home, even after 2 NS!! I am just wondering if maybe that has happened to your little man? I had to keep giving her Karo all night. Did they tell you how much insulin he was given? Lots of love and healing being sent:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am wondering the same thing...

If it did happen, you may have longer to fight these numbers. I'm glad that, even if he's not coming up a lot, at least he's spent most of his time in safe greens, but it'd be nice if you could get some sleep soon!

I would call the vet and ask about the anesthesia reaction, and how long it might last. That's the other thing that could be making his numbers a little wonky.

Brittany you must be like a zombie with no sleep yet, I would also call the vet and ask about the anesthesia, I hope he starts to perk up soon and you can grab a nap or two
Has he slept yet at all, please keep us posted

Was going to nap for an hour then it turned to 2. He rose at some point. Wish I would've gotten a test after 1 hour but glad he rose back up by himself. I don't think he's slept still. I'll call the vet and ask about the anesthesia.

The vet actually called me when I was going to call them, was checking up to see how he was doing and if I had questions. They actually grabbed the vet to ask them my question about him not sleeping and staring off, she said with how much pain medication he's on he's a bit out of it and the staring off is most likely him actually sleeping but with his eyes open. I also let them know that he dropped low yesterday and I skipped his 2 injections just to update them. They said I can come in tomorrow morning and get another injection for his pain since they're closed on Sunday to keep him well managed. Probably will do that.

So happy to see that 93, glad you got a few hours of sleep, so the vet told you it's the amount of pain meds he's on that's making him act the way he's acting
Poor Thomas J is high , Glad you are going in tomorrow , at least they can take a look at him, that was nice of them to tell you to come in tomorrow for another shot of pain meds

Well, he's having diarrhea now. He covered his whole bottom in poop and somehow after taking him and washing his bottom half it's still stained and stinky. Also got poop all over the floor after stepping out of the litterbox. Poor baby. Whole house smells like poop.

Oh Brittany , you and Thomas J have been through the ringer, like Man said maybe its from all the gravy from last night, I know you don't want to smell poop all through the house, don't worry about him being stained , after that cone can come off and he's back to himself you can really wash him good,
Maybe if you bring him into the vets tomorrow for the pain med shot, they can clean him up for you, Poor Thomas J and you

He hasn't eaten in over 10 hours. He refuses everything I offer him. I'm worried about him. Good appetite last night now nothing. Any suggestions?

Call the vet while they're open this afternoon. Did they give you any post-op things to watch out for? He could just be starting to feel the pain meds wearing off (pain is enough to make anyone not want to eat), but I don't think I'd diy this at this point.

Yes. They gave me papers that show what signs to look for and such. I gave them a call, the vet tech says the diarrhea and lack of appetite is normal. She said the anesthesia should wear off by tonight and if he's not perking up and eating by then to call in the morning and they can give an anti nausea injection along with the pain medication we're coming in for as long as Dr.B says it's okay anyway.

Guess I'll just keep up what I'm doing. Leaving fresh food out, offering tiny bites, even some plain chicken. Just not eating. I think it's because his stomach is so upset causing the diarrhea.

Here's what he had during surgery. I thought they said Meloxicam was unavailable so I didn't worry about it. That and the Torbugesic show as 0.00 so does that mean they didn't actually give it and it's just stuck on the paperwork by their system or does that mean it just wasn't charged. They also trimmed his nails for free but they told us about that, I forgot to ask them to do that so I was pleased about part at least. They actually thought it would be over $800 so that was a decent result.

The meloxicam they gave him is the dog strength of the medication (1.5mg/ml) instead of the cat strength of the medication (0.5mg/ml) so don’t let them give him any more of it if they are wanting to give more pain meds. There are other options.
I like meloxicam (a lot of people don’t) but it needs to be given in the correct dose/strength.
It looks as if they gave him 0.4 ml which is actually 1.2 ml in the cat strength. How much does he weigh?

It shouldn’t cause any staring or ‘out of it’ type symptoms but can cause tummy upsets if given on an empty stomach.

Hey Bron I see on her bill he weighs 17 lbs and guess what the cells and lines are fine again when I look at it, remember I told you the were there yesterday when I looked lol

They give a larger dose as the first dose (loading dose) so if he is 17 lbs that dose of 0.4 of the dog strength should be ok as the first dose.
Harry had to have meloxicam when he was stabbed in the eye with a knife and his maintainance dose was 0.5 ml (cat strength) daily and he was 5 kg (11 lbs).

Skipped his insulin again since he wasn't eating. Finally just got him to eat a little bit by forcefully smooshing it into his mouth, he ate about 1/4 3oz can maybe less of LC. I think his time released pain medication kicked in because he was in a better mood. He kept trying to eat and drink on his own but the cone is just too in the way.
Gonna buy a soft cone if I can find one tomorrow. I'm taking him to get a pain medicine injection and maybe anti nausea if he still doesn't eat much for me tonight and in the morning. Doing better though. I think if the cone was a couple inches shorter it would be fine for him. Gave his Veraflox too, he always hates that one.

Brittany I don't mean to laugh but you make me laugh when you said smooshing it into his mouth, I can just picture it. Maybe they can cut the cone shorter for him tomorrow, try holding a small dish up to his mouth to feed him. Glad the pain meds kicked in.

Those cones are very hard to eat with. I remember when I put one on Sheba she almost became immobilised. I used to take it off for her to eat. I'm glad you managed to get him to eat something. Poor fellow. Still in lovely green numbers even without insulin.
I can't even figure out how to get it off. I can't pull it off because his incision is on his ear of course. Can't get the stupid tabs apart and I can't find anywhere that shows how to do it.

His bg is getting low again. He refuses to eat anything. I syringe fed a tiny bit but most went everywhere except his mouth. Gave a little corn syrup too. I'm so frustrated that I can't get him to eat. He did great yesterday even with the cone on. It was a mess but he had a great appetite and willingness to eat.

No wonder he won't eat. That cone looks too long for him.
If you can get two fingers in, it wouldn't be to tight.
The poor darling. He does look miserable.
Can you get some strong scissors and cut the length back so he can reach a bowl to eat?
Would you be happy to do that?

Yes, I agree it's too long. Do you think an inch will be enough?
I don't think my scissors are strong enough unfortunately.

Do you have any of those strong kitchen scissors that can cut through chicken frames etc?
I'd start with an inch and see if that works.
I don't think they're that strong but they may cut through the plastic. I'm gonna try in the morning after the vet appointment if I can't find a soft anywhere to buy. He's sleeping a bit right now.

They're mostly closed lol

I'm glad he is sleeping when he wasn't earlier. Maybe the vet could take it off while it is cut.

A little higher thankfully. I'd rather see some 100s rather than 60 and below where he hasn't been eating well, at least I won't be worried sick throughout the night of him dipping down as much.
I went to brush my teeth and he had diarrhea again. Poor baby. Washed his bottom again, still has poop stuck in his fur that I can't get out. Poor, stinky boy.

I finally had enough of my poor baby struggling and not being able to eat or drink on his own. I cut an inch off half of his cone and put tape on the edges since they were probably sharp. He's able to eat a lot easier now and I can just put water in his food bowl for him to drink since he still can't quite reach the fountain bowl. I think he's pleased, he ate a couple bites.
