Hi, I'm asking for food help for Pretty Girl's companion, SweetPea, who is still with me now that Pretty Girl has been gone for more than 4 months.:(:rb_icon:

I tried many many different wet foods to help manage Pretty Girl's diabetes. Mostly I ended up with Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken and Rabbit, Nature's Logic Turkey and Chicken and Fancy Feast - mostly tuna or chicken pate. SweetPea nearly always ate what Pretty Girl ate - she would watch Pretty Girl and then usually eat what she ate.

Since Pretty Girl has been gone SweetPea has been more and more sad and unhappy and now sits at the window and cries (to go out I think). She has always been the most finicky of the two about what she eats and will sometimes decide she'll no longer eat a certain food for unknown reasons. She's apparently now decided that about Fancy Feast that she's eaten pretty much exclusively for months.

What do you suggest? I'm looking for a high quality wet food. SweetPea isn't diabetic but I want to keep her on the best of the wet foods that she'll eat. I've read Dr Lisa's food list many times - have it saved on my phone. I'm looking for personal recommendations, suggestions, experiences, anything.

Is a particular texture more appealing to SweetPea?
Would she eat something like Tiki Cat Succulent Chicken (Puka Puka Luau). Shredded chicken in a light broth.
Or the Fancy Feast Roasted/Chunky/Flaked styles?

I'm not 100% sure. Lately - last couple months or so - the Fancy Feast has been a combination of Chunky, Flaked or Pate. She seems to like the Chunky or Flaked more than the Pate.

This afternoon I went and picked up Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken and also Rabbit. She's eaten the Chicken with a bit more enthusiasm. Will have to see if she'll eat more quantity tonight.

It's hard to not worry an unreasonable amount. Thanks for the suggestion of the Tiki food.

First I would like to tell you how sorry to hear of Pretty Girls passing. I'm sure she knew how much she was loved and well taken care of. My heart goes out to you.
I'm sure Sweet Pea is missing her and how worried you are that she is being finicky she is being. Please let us know if she likes the Tiki food

Thank you. Pretty Girl has been gone since the beginning of November and it is still so painful. :(

Yes, very worried about Sweet Pea and I do think that she has just truly realized that Pretty Girl is not coming back - where's the tears icon??

I wasn't able to get the Tiki food yet as it's only in one store here - have had trouble getting there.

But I bought some Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken and Rabbit - it has been months since she's had that. And the chicken seems to be what works for right now. That and I'm making a real effort to "push" her to eat by putting the dish in front of her several times, stirring it around a while later and basically just really actively working at getting her to eat. It seems to be helping at least a little.

Thanks to all of you.

Hey Jean, I'm glad that Sweet Pea is eating a little bit, how old is she
Sometimes I would have to follow Tyler around with the dish to get him to eat, so I hear you. Sometimes I would put some in a tablespoon and put it up to his mouth and he would start eating. Boy our kitties sure can be finicky.
I'm hoping when you try the Tiki that she will take a liking to that
I know that it is still so painful yet about Pretty Girl, I have been there
Such a beautiful girl, Wishing that your pain eases with time
That is the worst part of having a pet, but they have brought us joy
I still cry when I look at pics of the 3 that I lost many years ago
Please let us know how Sweet Pea is doing ok :bighug::bighug:

The Weruva and Tiki foods are good quality. I'm also a fan of ZiwiPeak. They have several foods that are novel proteins. In addition, there are no gums or carrageenan in their products.

If you don't have a high end pet food store in your area, you can always call/email the manufacturer and see if they will send you samples. If you know what SweetPea likes, you don't want to buy a case and have her turn up her nose. (I'd also buy from Chewy's. They will give you a refund if you cat won't eat the food and ask that you donate the unused food to a shelter. They have great customer service!)

Cats grieve for their companions. Gizmo would wander the house looking for Gabby. I waited a few. years before bringing a kitten home. I'm now wondering why I waited so long. He's been playing with the kitten and they have been curling up together.
