yes and yes gravy food is DX @ 10%Do you have plenty of test strips, gravy, honey, etc?
OK, my bad, you are correct. 188 was the last blue I saw before I kinda panicked. She is in a bounce, I believe.I'm not seeing on the spreadsheet where you shot a 118-- the lowest I see is 171 on March 6. 108 is a pretty big jump down from that.
Let's see where she is on the re-test after the stall!
OK, for clarification purposes---NO FOOD, correct?OK, my bad it was 188
Yes, we do. Both cats are trying to take me down for food & yeowling to the cat gods.......If I get up from my computer it will be all over. & and another test for the Noves...will be a growly hard anxiety-filled moment--but we'll get over it.OK, there's a chance that the 108 was a bad strip, or else that she will start zooming up from here and you'll see a much higher number when you re-test.
We do the stall (no food) and re-test to get an idea of what direction she's heading in, to know whether it's safe to shoot. We need that tonight!
OK, I'll remember that about the 911--I just don't normally get answers quickly--I don't post a lot. I can stall the shoot up to 2 hours. I don't know how long I can stall the food. They are cranky already! My boss is cool if I have to be late tomorrow.I removed the 911 -- we reserve that for medical emergencies.
With SLGS, you need to stall on that low of a pre-shot given you've not seen that low of a number yet. How far off schedule can you afford to be? Remember, your next shot will be 12 hours from whenever you shoot tonight.
wouldn't food help her #s go up a bit for a safer shoot? or will I have to reduce?
So, the other option is no shot or half a dose?
@Nan & Amber (GA) if you're still up...432@ +2 from pm...what a bouncy girl!
Next time, I'll know better (maybe) (Hope the depot didn't drain too much for tomorrow) Sleep easy Novee----I know I won't.http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/3-9-nova-ive-shot-a-188-but-not-a-108.226811/
Shoulda, woulda, coulda--Followed protocol----Now I wish I would have shot--I was SO afraid to put her into hypo- and I was ready to pull an all-nighter---I hate the blacks & she was in a bounce from the day before.Next time, I'll know better (maybe) (Hope the depot didn't drain too much for tomorrow) Sleep easy Novee----I know I won't.
What happens if she goes sky high?

you wait it out. What happens if she goes sky high?
tonight you have a rare opportunity to sleep without worries of testing and pj parties. Make the most of it.Sleep easy Novee----I know I won't.![]()
I did ask if I could reduce the dose....guess I didn't word it properly and I must have missed that in my readings. Thank you in advance if this ever happens again.Well, now you know next time you can give a token dose...maybe 1-1.5 units - just so Nova gets some insulin. You just don't know what cats are going to do until you do it.
Being too high for a few hours is always better than being too low- especially since your kitty doesn't have a history of ketones.
Not much to do if she does higher...the numbers will ebb and start to come down a little closer to the next shot time and you can start again

something to think about for sure....may get more opposition that switching from a 12 hour feeding tho. Thank you. Some kitties benefit from adjustments to their feeding schedules to help navigate their BGs while being treated with insulin.
I used to feed my guy on a similar schedule as you and we had to make a few adjustments as see what worked.
He doesn't surf as well ( hold a range of numbers) if he doesn't eat for 6 hours, but ECID
I was in the same boat last night. Scratches had a pre shot of 133 (which is lower than usual and I just did a dose increase yesterday morning) so I opted to skip her shot because I wasn't fully confident to shoot that low especially since I just did an increase. This am she was sky high. Wish I would have shot last night. But now I know. And so do you. Any data is good data is what i've been learning! And as long as we have the hypo kit on hand we can avoid issues. My problem is not being so gun shy and just pull the trigger. We can do those all nighters if need be for our fur babies!Shoulda, woulda, coulda--Followed protocol----Now I wish I would have shot--I was SO afraid to put her into hypo
Thanks for that!! Nice to know I had company. Happy I had @Nan & Amber (GA) to help right away (false 911 removed later and then no answer)I was in the same boat last night. Edit: I just read the notes in your SS. I did not sleep well last night knowing I didn't give Scratches her shot, and from the looks of things, you didn't either! I'm sure the kitties slept just fine though!![]()
Don't worry. The ugly numbers are tough to see, but they are temporary. We were pretty sure she was going to bounce from the unfamiliar low numbers, the only question was when. Would have been nice if she'd at least started during the hour of stalling, but oh well. That's cats for ya!
Now you have a little bit of data to help guide the decision next time-- maybe still not shooting on 108/104/112 kind of numbers, but working your way down until you get to that point. And hopefully next time there will be someone who can stay with you. I just couldn't in good conscience tell you to shoot, even a reduced dose, and then abandon you-- we don't do that kind of thing around here! When you do shoot low numbers for the first time, we will make sure that there is someone with you just in case she decides to switch things up from last night's pattern and go even lower from pre-shot. Safety is the first priority!
Again, the ugly numbers are temporary-- looking at Nova's spreadsheet, it looks like she doesn't stay bouncing for very long, so you should see some good numbers again soon. Hang in there!

@Scratches123 ....Right now it feels like we are back at the beginning of Dx. Only the dose is higher. SO frustrating!! Will they EVER just surf without hitting waves and bouncing back to shore??? and maybe, just maybe regulate?I was in the same boat last night. It sometimes takes a bit to get responses. Most of the time they're quick but sometimes it takes a while so I had to take matter into my own hands last night and do what I felt was best. Turns out it was wrong, haha but I learned. She keeps me on my toes for sure. I notice she dips near PMPS so that makes it very difficult for me to make dosing decisions on my own. I'd be totally lost without this group. It's a marathon for sure. Those high numbers won't last and won't hurt her for a few hours. Better to be too high for a few hours than too low. Thanks for that!! Nice to know I had company. Happy I had @Nan & Amber (GA) to help right away (false 911 removed later and then no answer). Yep I would pulled an allnighter--even with a token dose.
I don't think Nova slept too well either--I think when she's flying high she meeRooooows a LOT, and just can't settle down. Yeah, gun shy for sure. Didn't really know that I could do a token shot either, now I do! It's all good--learning curve and all that. Gotta "love" how the sweet kitty's bodies like to mess with our heads.![]()
Scratches was down to .1 unit a while back. That's such a small amount. She failed her reductions and is now back up to 1.25. Yeah, I hear ya. Makes me want to take her back to my vet for some tests for UTI & ketones, but she shows no signs of either. Stupid disease! It sometimes takes a bit to get responses. I actually did that a couple weeks ago I ran her right to the vet. The vet checked her teeth. Nothing wrong there. Said she didn't want to rack up a bill and do a bunch of tests because she saw no reason to do that. Scratches just had a full panel done in Sept. She said it takes time. Ugh!Yeah, I hear ya. my vet would probably do it. Nova's panel was in October. I will no longer use her for FD support, so...i guess I won't!I actually did that a couple weeks ago I ran her right to the vet.
