Numbers not going down much. Increase?

Hi,
If anyone can take a look at jebat’s SS and advise if increase is the way to go. I thought he had better numbers at 2.25 unit.

Yes, Chris is right. So many people look back at the SS and see 'good numbers' on a previous dose...unfortunately what worked once, may not work again. That's why they call this the 'sugar dance' - up/down, up/down, up/down...it's the game that pancreas plays with us...sometimes it seems to be working better than others.

Try to be patient and hang in there...this stuff takes time.

Have a great day Waheeda!

Thanks @Chris & China (GA) and @Sue and Luci
I have increased to 2.75u this morning. I’m just confused cos he went down to the 70’s at a lower dose before but at 2.5 he seems to be climbing at preshot. Has his depot suddenly change such that he needs more to fill it up? Or did something happen to his pancreas that he needs more insulin? I guess we never know and just go along where he takes us ?

I've often mentioned that I wish that depot was like a gas gauge on a car - then we'd know how full it is. But unfortunately it doesn't work like that and we can only guess based on the numbers how full it is at any given time.

And it's not that something happened to his pancreas that he needs more, it's just that it may not be able to keep up with the demand at this particular time. The pancreas' job is to produce insulin - his isn't working quite up to snuff and he needs more time for it to heal. Sometimes perhaps it's working better than others...perhaps at this time it's just tired and needs a rest. It has to do with it's ability to produce more beta cells and heal itself. If we knew the magic of that healing process we'd all be in a different place - however we can only offer the support of providing insulin to help our kitties absorb nutrients until their pancreas can do that for them. It just takes time and patience.

He had pancreatitis back in Nov. Wonder if it’s back to normal. I didn’t do any pancreas test since he seems ok but my other civvie who had pancreatitis back in nov still shows abnormal status when tested last month. Does it make sense to do the pancreas test again or an ultrasound to see if it’s back to normal?

Hey there !!!
SS looks pretty good.
I am not sure that an ultrasound would tell you much about where the pancreas is as far as beta cells and insulin. You would definitely be able to see signs of inflammation and any thickening around the pancreas but- I think that's it.

Hi!!!!!
Then I shall skip the scan. Ya his SS is ok but numbers don’t seem to be going down much with the dose increase. We are stuck at 90+ the most.
It’s the same trend since even at 1.75u. I don’t understand why.

The only thing I could see or say is that I think you maybe held that 2.25 dose for a bit (9 days) and then the fattening of the dose just wasn't enough of an increase maybe ....
Hindsight is always 20/20, though. I think in the future, once those nadirs start to move up, you spend more of the days in the blues, and it's been 7 days- kick up to more juice:cool:
I do think these numbers are great though and exactly what his pancreas needs to start getting back to what it should be doing.
You want strong remission- not quick remission.

I held the 2.25 dose for qte a while cos I was busy that week and was worried I couldn’t monitor him in the morning should he go lower if I increased. So my plan now is another 4 days of 2.75 and if not much improvement, I will go up to 3. Does it sound right?

With kitties that have returned from remission, it can be harder to get them back into remission. The key is to get them back into regulation ASAP. Regulation is a prerequisite for remission. Try to focus on regulation first.
I actually removed dry food for 5 days from 1 mar. I honestly did not see much difference with or without dry food.
Whether you are on SLGS due to dry food or that's what suits your lifestyle, the guidelines are the same.
