Well, I don’t want to, but I think Edward is due for another increase. Tonight we go up to 1.5u :( and pray that it brings him down into safe, normal numbers.

I should also note that his ketones, while still very low, are creeping up... 0.1 on Tuesday, 0.4 on Wednesday, 0.6 on Friday. Should that resolve if/when his BG comes down?

Last note...We got bloodwork results yesterday from my vet. The only thing she saw that gave her pause was his “eosinophil” count of 1704. She wants us to bring in a stool sample to check for parasites  Interestingly, I checked the recent labs of another of my cats, and his eosinophil count was over 2000. Maybe they all have a bug??

Anyway... happy Caturday to you all, and may all our furbabies surf safely!

If there's a parasite present in one, it may well be present in all. Hopefully it can be resolved with that little pill...my other civvie used to get them all the time - she was outdoors a lot - I think she got them from eating the local game (mice, voles, etc.)...I dunno...

Yes, best to stay on top of those increases and hope that this one brings those numbers down - and hopefully the ketones will follow. Make sure he's eating and drinking plenty too.

Have a great day Kat!

Edward has caught and eaten probably dozens of mice and voles over the past decade. Not so much anymore, since he’s been confined to the catio, thankfully. I wonder if there would be any harm in giving all my boys treatment for parasites, even without a stool sample? It will be very difficult for me to isolate Edward’s poop from the other two.

You also have a lovely day, Sue! :)

I think that would probably be the best and easiest thing to do - since if you treat one, the others would likely give it back to the treated one - those larval eggs apparently get stuck to their feet and then cleaning the feet re-introduces the larvae...and then you're right back to square one.

I wouldn't even bother treating one kitty without getting treatment for all...sorry...but I don't think there's any getting around it.

I totally agree. I'll be on that next week, for all my boys.

In other news... Edward gave me a very unexpected 90@+5! As well as a completely negative ketone measurement! That's his first green since Monday, and his lowest ketone reading since I started regularly testing ketones exactly one week ago.

Would any of the more experienced members offer advice as to whether I should continue with a 0.25u increase tonight? Or should I hold steady at 1.25u?

That's a big drop from AMPS - please be sure to get another reading in an hour....let's see what he's up to this afternoon! Be very diligent - don't want him losing his dose (if he drops under 50, he'll get a reduction)....we can decide later based on his performance in the next few hours about tonight's dose...if he surfs all afternoon on this dose, I don't think I'd change it. Day 6 sometimes can be the magic day...Luci has done that for me a few times, just when I started thinking it was time for an increase, off she went on a nice long surf.

He seems to have held steady with 92@+6. I will aim to get a +10 or +11 and post here again before tonight's dose, for further advice. Thank you, Sue!

These greens are doing my heart and mind so much good, although intellectually I know they won’t last, due to his tendency to bounce. But still, it’s infinitely better than the last few days. It’s crazy how closely tied my moods have become to Edward’s numbers. Sigh.
