3/3 Zoot! AMPS=74; +3=59; +6=57; PMPS=64; +2=67; +5=63

He's doing so well. Very proud of him!

Saw the Vet yesterday - he thinks we should just go off insulin but he is patiently waiting for us to agree with him - I told him he has a couple more reductions to earn before we try going off. Hoping this trend continues.

Is this the same vet that had you prematurely stop insulin on 01/10?

Good for you for holding your ground!

Although we had several crazy free fall periods going down the dosing ladder (it was a long way down from 45u daily) once he was down to 1.25u all further reductions were earned not by seeing numbers under 50 but by virtue of maintaining normal numbers for 7 consecutive days. The decent from .5u to zero took us slightly over a month. Once OTJ he remained there for the rest of his life ( 6.5 years).

Patience prevailed

Yep, same vet. I think he secretly loves the spreadsheet.

Wow I would love to see him earning reductions based on consistent numbers - that is what we are trying for. Holy Crap! 45 Units a day - how did you dose that much?

He probably does like the spreadsheet. The methods on the other hand seem to make him uneasy :p

Going down the dosing ladder is more emotional than going up.

BKs last reduction based on BG going below 50 was from 1.5u to 1.25u. After that all reductions were by virtue of 7 days consecutive with numbers under 100 overall.

Regarding all that insulin he needed I was using two types of insulin simultaneously; a fast acting insulin along with Lantus in to get him out of the pinks. Once the Lantus dose got above 7u I started having trouble moving fast enough to get it all in so I would divide the Lantus dose into 2 syringes.

First, you are right on about the dosing making our Vet uneasy. He wanted me to skip shots under 150 (I never did :-)).

Re: your using 2 insulins and dosing - boy talk about ECID. Sounds like you did an amazing job with Black Kitty.
