ADVICE NEEDED (I think he really wants to go into remission.)

As you can see on his SS, in the 2/28 PM cycle, he had a dip into the lime (47) at PM+6. This is only his third cycle since the last reduction. How long should keep him at this current .75 unit dose?

This is like the last time we tried to go off the insulin. He seemed to want to move quickly to stop. So should I reduce by .25 for the 2/29 AM dose (7AM Eastern time) or try to manage the low numbers another 3 cycles?

The 1U dose could effect the numbers for as many as 6 cycles so I'd hang onto the .75 just a little longer.

His numbers do look awesome though!!

If his AMPS is really low, you could go ahead and try the .5 too....you could always go back up if necessary (but it's looking pretty darn unlikely that would happen)...just remember, even if you shoot the reduced dose, the higher depot will still be in play so you'd still need to keep a close eye on him.

There he goes with his typical dip at +3 - so gave food (8% carb) which should bring him up a bit. It was time to feed him anyway now that I split his meals. I skipped his +2 feeding because he was sound asleep, but I bet I could have avoided the 51 if I had fed him then....

One possibility is an accidental on purpose partial fur shot tonight of 0.5 units. Call it a break to give Cinnie some rest. Sometimes the beans just need a break. If I had a dollar for every time I "reduced for sleep", I'd be rich.
Thanks I needed that. :-). Permission (given, or that one gives oneself) is a power we sometimes forget we have. Thanks for the reminder. We will see on 40 minutes what his numbers look like :-). He, otherwise, is happy, normal, and hungry.

I did end up dosing less than .75. We will see how it goes tonight. Fortunately, I can get catch-up sleep after his AM dose tomorrow (fingers crossed)

Okay - so I looked over a LOT of spreadsheets and I don't see anyone shooting at numbers that I am - 53, 49 today. Am I doing something wrong here? Should I be delaying longer? I am concerned that I am risking pushing him into hypo at these levels? In retrospect, I cannot believe I dosed him even .5 at 49. And I don't see anyone shooting that low. Can anyone point me to someone who has done this? Thanks!

I did - based upon the conv with @Wendy&Neko . I am very nervous, but I reduced the dose to .5
II'm not sure about shooting 40s. I've ran into the same problem 2x...once with Ittle and once with Moey. Ittle's +11 was 49...so I fed him and delayed his shot until it was appropriate. Moey I got an AMPS that was 49 and I stalled and he went up to 56...then I shot.

Hey there--

We don't recommend shooting in the 40's. I'm glad that it was a 49 not 41, but definitely get a +1 and +2 to make sure he's headed in the right direction now, you may need to intervene before this shot takes effect. He'll likely start heading up and be fine from here, you just have to monitor.

Glad it was a reduced dose, too!

I never said to shoot below 50. That’s not something even experienced people do. I did shoot low 50’s, as long as I knew she was going up cause she got a food bump, and I had hours to onset. I would go ahead and feed HC now, he earned that reduction down to 0.5 units. And test in 30 to make sure you stopped the drop.

I would not shoot a 48. There are folks on this board who will tell you with tight control and excessive monitoing to shoot low to stay low but I would not feel comfortable shooting a number that low and it is not safe. your vet would tell you she would not even want to see numbers below 80 for a diabetic cat being dosed with insulin. I know this comment will cause controversy but please be careful shooting numbers that low. You should start feeding your cat some high carb foods now and throughout this cycle and start monitoring hourly or more if needed to prevent a hypo. get your vets number ready just in case. Not trying to scare you, but make sure you are prepared. If you are out of test supplies and high carb food, head to store right now. It will take some time for the insulin to set in and you want to have those supplies ready if needed for a few hours from now so you can feed your cats numbers back up.

He is at 78 right now. Should I still give HC?

Yes I was kind of following the shoot low to stay low guidance, but no one was talking numbers. I think we will be fine. I have HC food and will test often.

78 is OK, just keep the HC ready.
[EDIT] Sorry yes, I see you said he earned his reduction, thanks.

Okay I really did misunderstand the shoot low to stay low. [NEVER MIND THIS]But beyond that, given his dropping numbers, should I be thinking about reducing his dose soon? He has been below 50 today, so wouldn't that mean a reduction tomorrow?

I think I'm probably the only person currently active here that shot lows all the time, but even though I probably could have shot a 40'something, I never did. But I also had a ton of data on China (I'm talking years), knew exactly how she responded to both insulin and food and was able to test as much and as long as necessary.

Zoot...You be a good kitty and hold onto that surfboard! Don't want any of those hungry sharks out there in that deep water to have you for dinner! When they invite you for dinner, they're not planning on feeding you....they're planning on eating you!....LOL
