Good Morning!

Zoot! continues to do okay, but wow, shooting at 57 is a bit scary. Held for 25 min and he is 60.

Shot full dose. I can monitor and feed throughout the day, but overall numbers are reducing and I need to think about whether the dose is too high or I need to start feeding a MC food. I don't have MC food in the house (arrives today) but I have LC (8%) that he loves.

Yesterday's amazing day: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...-2-77-3-51-3-5-56-4-5-57.226215/#post-2534577

IDK what I"m gonna do when Buzz starts giving me green AM shoots (since I have to be at the office 3 days a week!)
Scary, but GOOD scary!

I know! I bless my job that allows me to work from home. These mid-green numbers are scary to me, but I am learning to take a deep breath and go with them. Come on Buzz!

Look at you go Zoot!!! Nice job shooting and managing him this morning Cinnie!
No more shark chasing Mr. Zoot! Be good and surf safely!:D
I hope you have a great day!

So I just got another less than 50 reading at +5, and fed him his small meal - 1/3 (around 1 heaping Tbsp) HC and 2/3 LC (8%)(around 2 heaping Tbsps). Will get a +6 reading as well. Definitely reducing the dose tonight.
Is it worth considering more than a .25 reduction (current dose is 1 unit) or am I just freaking out unnecessarily?

Won't comment on how much to reduce (have my guesses again, but will wait to see if the advanced people say the same thing I'm thinking lol), but I will suggest testing a bit sooner.
From the Handling Low Numbers sticky:
  • Depending on how carbohydrate sensitive your cat is, feed approximately a teaspoon or less of gravy from high carb food or high carb food only. (If you have a cat with GI issues, using a couple of drops of syrup plus low carb food is an alternative.)
  • Test again in 15 – 20 min. Depending on the numbers, give more HC food.
  • Repeat the above steps every 15 – 20 min. until your cat tests in the 50 mg/dL (2.8 mmol/L) or above range for 2 consecutive tests. Continue to feed in small amounts to keep numbers in a safe range.
  • Test in 30 - 40 min. and repeat the test and feed process until there are 2 consecutive tests where numbers are stable or rising.
  • Test in an hour and follow the same steps.

Oh my, Zoot! is not kidding around!

Just the 0.25U reduction should be fine. It's not unusual for them to bob up and down around the 50 line when they're asking for a reduction-- that's why we keep testing!
Yeah, I figured, was a little freaked at where his numbers are. Will test in 30 - since it is right around 50 - gonna treat it as normal low since he is really not diving more surfing low. Poor guy hates getting his ear poked. He is happy now, he got his foodies.

Yeah, but I think 30 mins is okay for me to test - I don't think he is dropping fast - he is more surfing around 50. I just gave him food and letting him rest till I test. Think I am making the right decision - we will see :-)

Thanks for posting that info from the stickies, @toomanycats !

Yes, test in 30mins, let's keep a slightly closer eye on Mr Zoot here. If he's under 50 again at the next test, just give him a tsp or so. It doesn't seem like he is a cat who will refuse extra snacks , but it's good to keep them a little hungry when they're in this zone, just in case there's a time where you really need them to eat!

I agree 30 min is OK.
I was a bad last night and waited an hour even though we were in the 50s. Buzzy is losing hair on his ears & I'm afraid it's related to all the testing

Think that the small meal at +2 got him through his normal drop at +3; gave a snack at +3 now he will be off food until +6.
