Keeping fingers crossed that he continues to stay on course in the green lane.

QUESTION: By my count this is the 10th cycle at 1.25 units dose. This sticky (thanks @carfurby) says a week below 100 (for the most part) and lowest BGs in the 50-80 range. So far, Zoot! has pretty much hit below 100s and the lowest BGs, so if he continues for 4 more cycles beyond this current cycle, then he will earn a reduction - is that correct?

Of course, it sounds right on track, but ya never know.

Yes, he's looking good! But don't rush this...I think you've got the gist of the sticky correct...but take it nice and easy...no need to rush this...you want a nice strong remission this time...so just take your time...maybe even let him tell you when he's earned a reduction? If you have a nice solid green week without a single blue number, I'd say then you could take a reduction...or possibly he'll drop and then will have earned it fair and square.

Easy does it this time...he's looking wonderful! You're doing a great job!

Thanks! At one time I was told I was too slow to take increases/reductions; so trying to be diligent. But I am with you, and would rather see solid green (if it goes that way!) than take the first opportunity if he doesn't seem ready. Thanks so much - hoping Mr. Z is on the right track!

Totally agree with Sue, he is doing sooooo good, please don’t rush it and let him tell you when it’s to much, don’t want any failed reductions

Zoot!'s +3 and a retest were both 48. I gave him ~3 tsp LC food. Will retest at +3.5. He is acting fine (hungry an alert).

The sticky says reduction is earned after 1 drop below 50, so tomorrow AM will reduce to 1.0 unit.

Anything else I should do?

If the LC doesn't bump that 48 up enough...I'd consider MC. Something in the 12%-15% range.

ETA: Usually LC doesn't have enough carbs to move their #s in the opposite direction.

I gave him the Weruva Lamb (8 carbs). He seemed to respond - up to 62: If it dips back down, I will give him some MC. He normally gets fed a small meal after +4 (along with the rest of the crew). Fingers crossed that he keeps going up.

You may already know this. You do want to get 2 non-food influenced tests showing rising #s. Since he came up to 62 I'd withhold food and retest in 30 mins. If you get a rising or higher # continue to withhold food and retest again in 30 mins. If that # is higher as well, that should indicate Zoot's done with the funny business. You can let your guard down a bit and go back to normal monitoring. JMO:)

It's awesome Zoot responds to the 8% so well. My kitty Moey laughs at the 8% when he's in the 40s. Moey will occasionally laugh at the 12% & 15% too!:rolleyes:

If you don't get confirmation about Zoot's reduction tonight, post well ahead of your shot time tomorrow with your question. Gives people plenty of time to give you an answer.
Hopefully you will get your answer tonight though.
Have a great evening!

Will do - will be battling his numbers for a while, I guess - back down to 58 now, gave some HC and will test on the half hour until he starts to rise.

To recap -

PMPS=89, he was fed his normal LC (8% carb) food
+3 = 48, he got a snack of his LC food
+3.5 = 62
+4 = 58, he got a tsp of HC food

I generally treat low numbers with food, but it sounds like I need to get two consecutive tests (30 minutes apart) where numbers are going up AFTER that last time I fed him. Is that right?

next two tests hopefully will go up.

I feel like 58 and 62 are pretty much the same number (given the meter variance). You could do 3 test on one blood sample and probably get those numbers in some variation....
Seems to be holding.

I usually try
50s- low carb
40s medium
30s High carb

But my guy takes awhile to come up when he's below a certain BG level. I try to catch him at the +2 since I am usually playing catch up by + 4 if he's trending downwards.
Definitely keep track on this trend as it is and how he responds to the HC since it's maybe closer to his onset....

Yes...2 non-food influenced #s.
I dislike that he may keep you up a bit tonight but, safety is paramount.
That 58 may indicate that he's trying to drop again and could require another food bump. Hopefully not.
Be good Zoot. Momma wants to go to bed some time tonight!

Yeah - nice last two numbers - I will do another in 30 minutes to see if he is still in the 74 range.

He seems to level out from +5 to +6 , so that'll be good to see where he's heading.
Okay - so..wah; does that 72 after the 74 mean he's is really going down again? To me it seems like he is stabilizing. Right now we are officially holding his midnight snack so he is getting impatient for food.

Should I do another 30 min test or wait an hour? When can I feed him?

Nice catch on the 48 btw. Zoot's lucky to have you. You're doing a wonderful job keeping him safe.
Zoot seems to be doing a nice job coming up. That test in an hour should tell you if he's finished playing tricks. It may be somewhat food influenced, since he's going to eat you if you don't give him a lil something something:p Nonetheless, in the overall picture he was coming up on his own. WTG!
I'm going to log off for the night/morning.
I hope you have a great evening/morning! Stay safe Zoot!:cat:

Thanks for your help - I am good!

The dosing Sticky Note does not say below 100 “for the most part”, it says the following:
  • Alternatively, attempt a reduction when the cat regularly has its lowest BGs in the normal range of a non-diabetic healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL) while staying under 100 mg/dl overall for at least one week.
That means staying under 100 for the week, no occasional blues. Maybe Zoot will try that on his next dose?

All - I think my support team has retired but after some [EDIT BEGIN] THERE WAS NO BOBBLING - I MEANT THAT HIS NUMBERS WERE BOBBING UP AND DOWN _ SORRY ABOUT THAT [EDIT END] bobbing, he just threw up a lot of food. However his test 15 min later is 77. guess I will stay up for one more test in an hour.
