Yesterday evening I gave Moe his first dose of basaglar, 0.5 unit. His BG dropped to 458 at +5. He woke me up three times overnight vomiting. This morning AMPS he was at 516 (AlphaTrak). He was still looking and acting sick this morning; feet tucked in meatloaf-style, eyes half closed. I had to carry his breakfast upstairs and he ate about a half ounce. He came down and peed in the litterbox, then tucked himself up again. He's just come over to his feeding spot and is eating another half ounce.

I'm concerned that he'll vomit his breakfast. He's due for his injection in the next 15 minutes. Do I shoot if he vomits? At what point is it safe to shoot?

Thanks for insight...last autumn he responded so fast to the insulin and he never had any issues. Looks like it's going to be trickier this time around.

My guy was anorexic and threw up a few weeks ago. I gave him his insulin and just tried to get a few oz of food ( broiled chicken) into him afterwards every 45 mins or so. Offered a little bit more of a bland diet at a time so he had something in his system at onset. He will usually always eat baby food, so we typically have that on hand.

Sorry.
Hope he feels better soon :bighug:

You say he is tucked in meatloaf style. So there is some pain somewhere, but it could be from Just throwing up. Do you have any cerenia or plain Pepcid in house?

Might want to get him checked out. Get a test for pancreatitis, I don't know why vets are against it. It's common in diabetic cats.

I have cerenia, but the expiration date is 30 Jun 2019. No Pepcid at the moment, but I can go get that. I don't remember the dosing...1/2 of a 10mg pill?

He's not in meatloaf anymore. He was doing that very briefly this morning, but has been either curled up on his side, or flat on his side. He had a full physical with bloodwork on 2/3 and all was normal. I don't know if he was tested for pancreatitis...is there a specific test for that, or is it just based on symptoms?

I would offer a bland diet - not cat food - in small amounts. Teaspoons at a time....broiled chicken, baked Turkey breast, chicken or beef baby food...

I say hold on cerenia...I prefer anti nausea meds instead of an anti emetic without knowing why they are vomiting but that's your call.

1/4 tab plain Pepcid AC. I would try the cerenia first though. If it doesn't help then you know you need more and use the pepcid until you get it. There is a specific lab test for pancreatitis. Some vets have SNAP test but it doesn't give values, only a positive or negative.

Pancreatitis
Mostly symptoms and elevated enzymes on a blood test.....lipase and amylase I believe along with signs of dehydration on labs
Could do snaps, but I think they're useless in cats personally

+8 hours and BG = 412. I bought some Pepcid but haven't given it yet. I also got some baby food. He's eaten a couple of teaspoons and hasn't vomited yet. He came looking for his mid-afternoon meal but wasn't interested in the Friskies pate he usually eats, so I gave him another blob of baby food. Fingers crossed it stays down.

No vomiting yet, and he's just come around looking for dinner. He actually ate his Friskies after refusing it an hour ago. And now he's going to the other cats' bowls and cleaning their plates. I hope he's turned around!

Came home from dinner out and found that Moe had thrown up the little bit he ate at 4:00pm. He just ate a very small amount of baby food after his PM injection. I guess the good news is that his BG has been dropping all day. Got a couple of pink numbers after being black and red all day, so that's positive. I'll try to get some Pepcid in him before bed. Poor kitty. If he doesn't start eating and keeping it down, we're headed back to the vet tomorrow.
