? 2/22 Arya: AMPS 572, 2.75 U, +2 398 +3 368 +5 334 +6 340, PMPS 523 +3 360, increase? Post DKA/HL

This morning her AMPS was 572..very scared of such a high number considering the DKA - going to get a ketones test ASAP but should I increase the insulin? Will be able to get more numbers today since it's a Saturday. Will she be ok with this high of a blood glucose level?? She ate half a cup of dry food overnight - I've been leaving out a lot of food for her - thinking that maybe I should cut back on that a little as it seems to be messing with her numbers a lot or should I just increase insulin?? Thanks!

Ok.
I don't like that black 575 and we don't want any more ketones to appear, so I think we should increase the dose to 2.75 units. Do you think you could draw up 2.75 units OK?
It is half way between the 2.5 units and the 3 unit mark.

my syringes don't have the half marks..to get the 2.5 I've just been going in between the 2 and 3 but there is no line..I can try to just eyeball it but not sure if you think that is safe for the .25 increase?

I didn't have any 1/2 unit syringes either and I just had to eyeball that amount of dose.
Try and get it so that it is 1/2 way between the 1/2 unit imaginary mark and the 3 unit mark. As long as you consistently get the same amount, that is OK.

Ok thank you for your help did it - she got her shot at 5:55 am so 40 minutes past 12 hours just for reference. Did not feel any wetness in her fur but of course my other cat (Charlie) scratched on my door right when I was giving it causing Arya to try to jump down off the bed to run to the door but I think it went in/we are ok! I could kill him for his poor timing haha. I was going to try for a +3 and a +5 or +6 today do you think that's good? Trying to get some different times in this morning (tonight will not be able to get anything past a +2). She is eating again and drinking water.

I would get a +2 to start with amd go from there.
Will you be out for the whole cycle tonight after +2?

Ok I will start with +2 this morning. And now that I'm thinking about it I will be out for first 3 hours after injection but then be home so I could get a later reading (+3 on) and not a +2. My mom will be here to check on her/observe but like I said will not check her BG (trying to show her it's not hard but she is taking convincing..she's convinced I'm hurting her even though she lays there and is fine).

Sheba used to run to me when she heard me getting the testing stuff ready.

Not sure if I will be awake for the +2 as it is 10.20 pm here but I'll try and be.
Just keep testing and if you are unsure about anything, post and ask for help. Wendy won't be around for several hours yet.

Thank you!! I was feeling pretty good last night then saw the black number and got scared since I've never gotten a reading that high before.
 
I'm on my way out the door, but just one comment - would you consider using a human meter? Many use human meters quite successfully - strips are much less expensive and you may see better numbers sooner than later.

Now that I've gotten more comfortable I would consider it - why do you think it would be better (other than cost obviously) ? Initially I just wanted the pet monitor because it seemed it'd be the most accurate and I was already nervous about everything.

I got her to eat a little bit but she's not too hungry since she's been eating all morning. She drank more too. l will get a +3 in 35 minutes. She is very happy right now though in my lap, nudging me and purring. Sorry my post didn't go through.

If she’s still dropping at +3 get a +4.
What is the wet food you are feeding? Is it high or low carb?

Ok thank you for staying up with me sorry for any delays! I will and I will try for a +5, +6 as well today to see if we can find her low. It is low carb but she still has the 15% carb dry that's really what she eats. The wet food I've been trying to offer additionally and today I tried to sneak in her antibiotic but she's not interested.

Ok will do she wouldn't go just now and I needed to go but I'll try when I get home..I'm worried though seeing such high numbers :( do you think it's safe to not test tonight or should I try to get a test in when I'm home? It would be a +4 probably
 
Get a test when you get home tonight.

At some point, you might want to consider a blood ketone meter. More expensive strips but easier to get results.

Sorry I meant should I test BG when I get home at +4? Thank you! I will definitely do ketones
