Morning all!

I'm going to reread all the TR instructions again, but thoughts on bumping him back up to 1.25 again?? The last time I increased his numbers went absolutely haywire :nailbiting: so although I KNOW his numbers need to come down to "Keep the Ketones Away" even that .25 makes me a wee bit nervous . . . but in my gut I know he needs it.

On the plus side . . . today I'm signing the papers on my wee little dollhouse!! *clapping hands with glee* It is within my budget, it is an old house with character, and it has TWO small exterior porches for the cats (and a clawfoot tub for me!) Ironically, it is the house owned by the people who have bought MY house!! What are the odds?!?! It is literally half the square footage, so I'll have a lot of adapting to do on my end, but it's the right house for me. After seeing a whack of homes, in sketchy areas of the city, with crumbling foundations, I'm over the moon on getting this one :woot:

Please give me your thoughts on the .25 increase! I've already shot 1.0 u for this morning.

(*Edit = Okay, according to the TR information, and because Jonesy HAS had ketones in his sordid past ;) my plan IS to increase his dose to 1.25 for tonight's dose)

Thanks all!

Darcy

I'm poking my nose in again, and saying don't forget about those before bed tests :). I wouldn't have considered an increase without those tests, just to be sure I wasn't missing something. And with TR, it would be wise, or else you may end up increasing without knowing all of the data to tell you an increase is warranted. Just my 2 Canadian cents ;).

And don't forget we dose primarily based on nadirs, not preshots.

That 52 is close to the no shoot number of 50. Since you feed any more tests will be food influenced. You may need to skip tonight.

He's at 65 right now, has eaten, will test again in 30 minutes as that's about the last time I can shoot without totally screwing up the cycle.

I fed because I was worried how he'd dropped from 72 to 52 in 20 minutes :( I don't know what to do . . . I don't want to NOT shoot altogether as he's had ketones in the past
I'm going to give him 30 minutes, go feed myself (as I'm getting a headache from not eating) Will check back

I understand why you shot. If you shoot tonight you'll need to monitor since the numbers are food influenced. He could come back down after the food wears off.

Maybe a half dose of 0.5U? As long as you can monitor tonight (and as long as he doesn't decide to dip further down on that next test!!!).

Have to say, I'm uncomfortable recommending a dose when he was dropping before the HC-- it's not something you want to do without having a lot of data in that situation. Hopefully some other folks can weigh in on this too before it's time.

Darcy, I just saw you fed HC. That 52 was okay on its own, and we would have hopefully seen it stay flat or increase a bit. Hard to say, since the numbers have been trending down, but unfortunately, feeding the HC will influence the numbers you get and artificially inflate them. I don't know...I'm not comfortable with the HC in the mix, numbers can turn quickly when it wears off. I know he needs some insulin with past ketones, some kind of token dose I think is warranted, with continuing to monitor this evening, since you'll have some depot in play. And test for ketones this evening.

What is that relative to when you first got the 72 please?
Not sure if I'll answer you properly but here goes:

PMPS was 72 (no shot, stalled food)
After 20 minutes he dropped to 52, I panicked as he'd dropped so much in 20 minutes, fed him 2t of hc and then 2t of low carb. That's it.
After 50 minutes he was up to 65
One hour after that test, he's at 148

Good luck tonight! Once the HC wears off, you can collect a little data to get an idea of where he was planning on going tonight, and then use that knowledge the next time you are faced with this situation. Not that our kitties ever do the same thing the same way twice, lol, but sometimes there are patterns...

Thanks everyone. I'm always so unsure . . .

I've a diabetic coworker and although I love her, she's always asking "So how were Jonesy's numbers?" I'll tell her and then she'll give me the human version of what *should* be happening . . . I want to scream "but he's a CAT!! He'll do whatever the hell he WANTS!" LOL

But I restrain myself ;)

Thanks again, I really really appreciate all the support :bighug: I'm going to lock my adorable idiot Vinnie in another room and take Jonesy into the bedroom where we'll lounge on the electric blanket.

It's our time :cat::p
