Good morning! Wasn’t sure if Molly earned another reduction or not? From the +8 last night
We are meeting with a lady today. Who might be Molly’s pet sitter. While we’re away this year. Or if we go away over night. She had a diabetic cat herself. But it went into remission. Is there anything I should be asking her today?
 
I would discuss the protocol you're following with Molly, and ask her if she has any questions. I'd find out what insulin she used, to see if she's comfortable with the U-100 syringes and understands depot insulins. See if she knows about/understands what to do for a hypo.

If Molly is stable probably less of a problem than newly diagnosed.

All of the above is why I probably won't be going on vacation for awhile.

Yes, we didn’t have a vacation. Last year for that reason. But I would like to get away this year. We took Molly camping with us. She really enjoys that :)
 
The 49 last night is too high for a reduction for a longer term diabetic kitty. The options to consider is if Molly either drops below 40 -- that's an immediate reduction -- or if she drops into the 40 - 50 range during three separate cycles then you can reduce. Of course, the final option is if she stays in normal numbers for a week that's also a time when you can reduce.

Ok that’s what I thought. I always forget the range. I’ll have to make note. Instead of always asking.
Met with the pet sitter. Molly met her at the door. That was a good sign. She’s familiar with Lantus, needles and curve, hypo. She has 4 cats of her own. One was diabetic but went into remission.
Going to start training her next week with Molly. So Molly will feel comfortable with her. She also works at the animal shelter.
 
With my pet sitter, I showed her how to test BG, the feeding routine and drawing up/shooting insulin. Then she practiced all of it while I was there a couple times. I also made her videos of everything, my whole routine and sent those to her via text message. I also left a binder with notes with the whole routine, information about hypo, my vet information with a credit card in case she needs to take Blaze to the vet while I’m out of town. I also left my laptop open with the Lantus board open, in case she needed to ask anyone questions on here.
 
You're laptop could shut down. How about giving her your password and changing the password when you get home?

I would always reduce Gabby's dose when I was traveling as a precaution (Gabby also wouldn't let anyone test so it was doubly important to reduce her dose.) although given Blaze's dose, I'm not sure how you could do that. The other thing I often suggest is that you leave a sample syringe with colored liquid so your sitter has a comparison. Or, at the very least, a close up photo of the syringe since Blaze is on such a small dose.

Oh awesome thank you Sarah this is going to help me a lot. I’m going to be nervous my first time away from Molly. But I think she’ll be fine thank you for the helpful Info :)

You’re welcome!:) I was SO nervous the first time we left Blaze. My husband and I got married in Maui last September and Blaze was diagnosed a month before our trip. We were gone for 10 days and it was hard but thank goodness we had a good pet sitter who took the time to learn everything and sent me BG numbers, messages and pictures every day we were gone! Now I totally trust her to take care of things if we are gone for a few days.
