This is my second post, I still need to fill out all my information, so sorry about that. Doing some looking on what's the best meter to get and I'm at a loss.

Suggestions?

Jennifer & Kitton (16 year old female, newly diagnosed on Lantus 1 unit twice a day)
 
The is no right or wrong meter to use, but price can be a big factor. Most people here use a human meter, so that's what more people here are familiar with and what most of the protocols are based on. The ReliOn Prime meter (sold by Walmart) is really popular. The meter is cheap ($9) and the strips (which is the most important cost-wise since you purchase them over and over) are $0.17. It requires 0.5 ul blood sample. The AlphaTrak (pet meter) test strips cost about $1 each, so quite a price difference.

If you don't have a meter now, I would recommend getting a human meter. I'm still using my pet meter, but it's because I'm familiar with the numbers, and I prefer the smaller sample size. I keep trying to make the switch, and I wish I had started with a human meter.

But do what makes you comfortable.
 
Hi I used to use the pet meter the Alpha Trak but the strips were too expensive and since you are going to start testing more often in the beginning you will go through them quickly, so I switched to the Relion Prime human meter and I'm so glad I did , like Amy said it's 9 dollars for the meter and 17.88 for 100 strips

Sorry for the confusion .

This company is crazy I had nothing but trouble with my app and meter from day one ! The agent never helped me ! Now they won’t answer my calls and they cancelled my subscription . I paid for the month . Everytime I told her about a problem she made an excuse ! She tried to tell me they replaced my meter . They have not replaced my meter ? Theres only one number to call them . I get no answers nothjng . I tried to be patient with them she gave me excuse after excuse not listening to me . I had an order of strips just waiting to be shipped I emailed her with the order number she referred to another order I said no ma’am I have yiu the information did you read my emails
All the way thru ??

Member @Tina and Salem can not recommend the Abbott Precision Xtra Ketone meter. Due to horrible customer service. Thanks for that feedback Tina.

You don't need a ketone meter. Ketone test strips will test the urine for ketones for you. Test strips are expensive for the blood and ketone meters.

If you are in the US, get the meter and test strips you can afford. It's the test strips you will go through quickly. Meters are inexpensive.
 
No I was referring to one drop meter has terrible service lol not precision . I have not dealt with customer service with precision . But the precision meter works great . I had a hard time catching Salem going to the litter box . Yes the strips are expensive more than other meters but it’s worth it to me cause I cnt catch him to use the urine strips . This meter catches ketones in the blood sooner than the urine .
 
the Relion is just for glucose . I think I deleted Relion from my signature I dnt use it no more I use one drop for glucose now . But that might change cause customer service is terrible and they cancelled my subscription cause they didn’t want to fix my problems telling me they already replaced my meter when they didn’t . I wrote the ceo to explain what they did to me . Precision is for both ketone and glucose I have the precision listed for both ketones and glucose .
