Hello, I'm a new member but not new to feline diabetes although I feel like Im back at the start.
Blade was initially diagnosed 2 years ago. Diet change and then into remission.
February 2019 needed insulin again. Again diet change and remission.
Did my monthly BG test and he was high 5 days ago and then this morning he was at 15 so we've started a curve for the day.
How long do we do the curve?? 12 hours? And ideally testing every 2 hours? Can I stretch that out?
And then what is my next step - he was on Lantus the last 2 times and I still have a brand new vial in the fridge. He is otherwise healthy and normal.
Thanks for your time

Welcome to FDMB!

Please check the vial of Lantus to make sure it's not past the expiration date. Hopefully, the date is printed somewhere on the label. There is an overwhelming amount of information on Lantus and it's use in the sticky notes at the top of the Lantus forum. You may want to take a look at those notes as a refresher.

It doesn't expire till June 2020
Thank you, I'll have a read
Hi Samantha! Did you come over from our sister facebook group? Thought I read through a post over there just this morning where someone was trying to get their diabetic cat into remission again. Person had done that twice before.

Some basic info would help us to help you better.

Hi Deb and Wink, yes I've been in the FB group since 2018 and did post the other day. I've updated my signature but need to still do the spreadsheet.... I'll re read the notes you linked above and do the spreadsheet but wll take a few days

How long has the Lantus been open? If it is a vial, it starts losing it's effectiveness about 3 months after it was first used. If it is a pen, most people can use all of it before it becomes ineffective.

WHen I adopted my Badger he came with a 1/2 via of Lantus. It was in use for ~9 months. I was getting strange BGs and thought it was because the vial was getting bad. I then used some of Badger's Lantus on one of my other cats and it worked like the pen I was using. I also tried my Lantus on Badger and was still getting strange number. I concluded that the vial was just fine. Badger's strange BGs were caused by ear polyps. After surgical removal, Badger's BGs were great.
