Diane, we do the best we can when we suggest things and comment on people's posts. They may not have read through what was said. Or they are already busy and overwhelmed and can't stand to read anything else from us. Or maybe they haven't set up there user profile to get alerts via email when there are replies to their posts.
I know "The Mum" is also a member of our sister facebook group. I helped her here on the FDMB back on 1/28/20 when she was doing her first curve and she did not have a spreadsheet setup yet, or anything in her signature. She told us she had a 46 blood glucose reading and I and other members were directing her to feed her kitty and retest. She did not understand the seriousness of the situation.
Turned out she misread the meter and the actual number was 461. Stayed with her until later in the evening to reassure her and watch the PM cycle BG readings. Because that is something we do. Pajama parties and sitting around in our bathrobes, making sure new members are ok.
We are strangers to many new members and need to earn their trust. It's her choice to follow her vet's advice, but I wish she had read what we posted here first, before giving the 3 U of Lantus.
Time will tell if everything will be ok. Lantus "depot" storage area takes about 6 cycles to fill, so she may not see the full effects of that dose increase for a few days. Here's hoping she doesn't end up rushing her cat to 24 hour emergency vet.
There are a few 24 hour emergency vets near her. Maine Veterinary Medical Center
https://www.mvmc.vet/
In Portsmouth NH. Veterinary Emergency Critical Care
http://www.veccnh.com/
Port City Vet
https://portcity.ethosvet.com/
The NH locations, especially VECCNH have better reviews.
Hope she bookmarks these on her smartphone.
We just have to hope her cat doesn't end up being a heart breaker, like that new member with her kitten
Savannah. If only she had found us a day sooner, we probably could have helped.
p.s. She lives about 1 hour north of where I live. She is in Maine.
