Will it stress them out? I haven't brought Mimi to the vet in a long time because I was so nervous she will get stressed and sick.
I also am nervous I will butt heads with the vet if they try and tell me not to test my cat, or not feed them a raw diet. Even just them knowing so very little about feline diabetes scares me.

There's a good article here about asking vets questions before you take your cat to them. You can absolutely find a vet that will work you. I would go so far as to say many vets will work with you on treatment, if you stand your ground and show them articles about why you are doing what you do, or results from home testing. If you end up with a vet that will not, then you fire them and find one that will.

Every cat is different, but I find that while going to the vet does stress my Billy out a bit, he's over it as soon as he gets out of there. Try to make sure your cat doesn't pick up on your own stress. Take some deep breaths, play some nice music in the car, whatever you need to do to help you relax.

Thanks I’ll read the link right now! I actually do play calming music in the car - there’s cat music on YouTube. I also stick my hand on one of the openings and pet her as we ride. Cat’s are so funny with how nervous they get

Hey- so what tests should our sugar babies be getting at the vet? Is there a test for pancreatitis?

Don't worry about the vet telling you not to test or feeding raw food. Politely but firmly state that you are going to continue to test and feed the raw and you will be glad to share the spreadsheet with them so the can see how well she is doing and to add a copy to her records. Many of us have had the same experience with our vet. Most of the vets eventually figure out that we know what we are doing. :cat:

There is a test but unless she has some symptoms that point to her having pancreatitis that is not a necessary test, I would ask for a full blood work out though that will give you a very good general panorama of how is she and will help you start monitoring her kidneys (as the get older some cats have problems in their kidneys so is better to catch that early)

Maybe include a thyroid test if possible ( not necessary but is something that can be done with the same blood sample and is good to get it checked once in a while)

Will it stress them out?
One word of warning and that you and your vet have to take into consideration , the visit to the vet can really stress them out to the point that it can actually raise their blood glucose numbers so if the vet tests him it can come a lot higher than he usually is ( Babu could raise up to 150 above what he had at home) but that doesn't mean she needs more insulin just that she needs to rest and calm down
