I have a question. Fafa was 6kg when diagnosed. Before that she was 8kg at her highest on dry food but after changing to raw food, I think she was about 6.5kg to 7.5kg.

Fa is a domestic short hair tabby.

After starting with insulin, she was back to 6.5 kg within a month.

She keeps asking for food and I know it’s possible to have acromegaly but we don’t have the chance to test yet as we don’t have this testing facility locally.

She was then 7kg and today she is 7.4 kg.

My question is, should I feed her when she asks for food? Or should I try to help her to eat less?

Did your vet say what her idea weight is? I would try to keep her around that ideal weight. I found that multiple small meals helped keep my girl be less hungry. If she does have acromegaly, the extra growth hormone is causing her body to grow and she will gain a bit of weight as a result. My Neko had some Maine Coon in her, so a large breed anyway, but I told her she wasn't going above 6.8 kg. She didn't, though she wanted to.

Your vet will have to do what everyone else does, and send the blood to the facility that does do the test.

my vet hopes that I can feed her less and hopefully can get her around 6.5kg or 6kg.

it is hard because she keeps asking for food when she sees me. If she does not see me, she is better. I feed her as I am not sure if she does need the food or not.

I will ask again about testing next time I see the vet. We try not to go to the vet because Fafa gets really stressed on the way and at the vets. We need to drive for almost half an hour. Also, the vet did not want me to up the dose after 4.5u. I try to avoid talking to her about dosing, but we need her prescription so it’s hard to avoid.

Freckles just had blood drawn yesterday for acro and IAA testing. I seemed to have luck talking to and arranging the testing through the vet tech rather than the vet himself. I live in Canada and the blood sample was sent down to Michigan USA for the testing.
