Alice 1/30 AMPS yellow, MIA for awhile!

Hey guys! How is everyone? I have spent the past couple of months working at moving across the country. Alice has traveled with me multiple times. I’ve let her regulation get rather poor and been sick and missed some doses and I feel bad but feelings don’t fix problems so... I’m just trying to push through now that I won’t have to travel as much for a bit.

I really need to look into why Alice has such bad bowel movements (foul smell as in I take it out in the middle of the night in ten degree temps or it stinks up the whole downstairs).

Also one of the civilian cats needs dental work.
I think Alice needs a specialist, an internist maybe?
Does anyone have experience with the university of Minnesota and their veterinary care?

I just got about two backdated months caught up on Alice’s SS.

No one has mentioned anal glands. She has been licking the fur off her abdomen since the start of October. Poops were stinky before but they are kind of unbearable now.

Thanks Carla. Unfortunately they’ve made the decision to put her to sleep tomorrow. She is emaciated now and probably has cancer on her tongue... I feel like I could give her a few good months left if I could afford her dental stuff and supportive meds. I don’t want to say goodbye to her... but it’s out of my hands. It just is.

So I moved Alice just this once so I can cuddle sick kitty Anja for the night.

I was wondering again about testing for EPI. I had messaged the ez complete premix humans and that was brought up again.
I suspect she has some arthritis/body pain these days too. She has some increased irritability, especially when being touched in certain places or ways.

EPI is included in the GI panel.

What I really liked going to an internist for was managing and prioritizing meds to handle multiple conditions. I didn't really talk to mine about diabetes much, other than seeing if there were meds that didn't impact blood sugar. You might want to get arthritis checked out. In the US, Adequan seems to work wonders for some cats.

I like adequan. I've seen it work wonders before.
We started this CBD / Hemp oil for my guys cervical pain and mild spondylosis...it really has mellowed him out quite a bit too. He seems much more comfortable and his coat is actually improving. It's not making him sedate or " foggy" like the Gabapentin did. We're also on Omega 3s - which I've always said everyone should be!

Does anyone have experience with the university of Minnesota and their veterinary care?

I don't have experience with the vet school, but I do have (too much!) experience with the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota, which has internists on staff. They have a location in St. Paul and one in Oakdale. I don't know how the pricing compares.

I asked my beloved, who has lived in the area all his life, what he knows about the vet school. He's had two hyperthyroid cats there over the years for the radioactive iodine treatment, but he wasn't around the vets much. He did say that he could remember only one vet student shadowing a doctor at a time. I once took a cat to the University of Wisconsin vet school and was frustrated when several students clumsily examined her, escalating her stress and endangering themselves as well as her.

As a human I have taken gabapentin and I just want to say, I don’t enjoy the effects one bit! It messed with my language abilities/processing, amongst other things. I’ve wondered what research is out there on CBD use in felines..... I’ve considered its use for the cats, as I was in a state with mmj.

thank you! I’ll take any tidbits of info I can get. I’m still so disoriented physically and having trouble figuring out where to go or what to do for her. For now she’s going to some random vet in Anoka for a probably UTI today but I’d like more comprehensive care for sure!

we almost thought we could save her. Drove to the humane society then got the feeling they wouldn’t be able to help. Called the vet she saw the other day and got a clearer picture of what is really going on and why we can’t help her all that much... she might not survive a surgery at all.

I am so heartbroken but finally feel like we have checked every option. I think that’s important. I’d like to go to her appointment for euthanasia but I will probably watch the kids so others can go who have known Anja longer. I’m so sad but it’s not about me.

I am so grateful for everyone’s support. The past two years have held so much loss and death and change I’m ready for less of it!!!!
