Getting ready to do a second curve.

New here, Gracie is 8 yrs, we are dosing at 2 units Lantus. The first curve January 28, 2020:
AMPS 8:14 am 248
8:39 am 2 units Lantus
+3 11:17 am 305
+6 2:54 pm 122
+9 5:18 pm 461
+10 6:26 pm 547

PMPS 8:23 pm 508
x:xx pm 2 units Lantus

My vet didn't like it because I fed her too often. Gracie wants to eat just about every 2.5 to 3 hours. I also misread the 5:18 test and thought is was 46. Posted on here and people were begging me to feed her. While she was eating I scrolled through the AlphaTrack 2 and realized it was 461, not 46.
I have a plan to test at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 6:00 pm, 9:00 pm allowing a small window to give her a little something to eat. My vet advised only 2 meals on curve day of 1/2 can of 3 oz FF. I just can't see that happening.
I am looking for advice on doing a curve for a kitty that is hungry all the time.
I just did the SS today and haven't filled in the numbers. Can someone please check my signature and make sure it is view able? The main message board advised me to check with this forum.
Thanks.

Hi. Welcome. You have come to the right place. I see your spreadsheet but it’s blank. I guess you are going to start recording with this curve? I’d put in any prior tests you gave if you can.

I'm new at this but I think my little man would turn into a raging pyscho if I didn't feed him regularly during the day. His total consumption levels is definitely below maintenance levels for his weight. We have him switched to 100% Fancy Feast Classic Pates and it's working great honestly. But yeah I could easily see him fashioning a shiv to take me out and then eating my corpse while it was still warm if I denied him eating regularly throughout the day.... Nonono really he loves me. It's not just the food I give him that causes the love....

By the way, I need prozac or something for me. I am a wreck.
Ah, that’s not unusual. I was a wreck when Max was diagnosed. I wasn’t going to test at home either so you are ahead of where I was. Congrats for testing right from the beginning.

It’s best to post daily on this board as you will get lots of support. Good luck with your curve.

On SS, what does dosing method SLGS or TR mean? Gracie is on strict Fancy Feast diet, no dry as of diagnosis. She ate 2 big handfulls of dry in one day the day before diagnosed. Dwindled her off it for about 3 days.
So, how much to feed while doing a curve? 1/4 of the 3 oz. can was not warmly received.

I fed Max several small meals and tried to do it in first half of each cycle. It kept him more even and helped with his chronic pancreatitis.

Hello and welcome to you and sweet Gracie. Make sure you take a read of all the yellow starred Sticky Notes on the top of the forum. Lots of good information in there. And keep those questions coming. :)

Feel free to continue feeding small meals, it's easier on the healing pancreas. We suggest to new people to try to lift food for a couple hours before the shot, so the preshot test is not influenced by carbs.

Here's the link to your previous post you mentioned, for a little context for others: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/in-midst-of-first-time-curve.224909/

It'll help us if you put the number of units you shot in the U columns for AM and PM. Good job with the curve today.

That's a good start. You need to put the 2 units in both the AM Units and PM Units cells, and as well for the days when you didn't get any data.

We do strongly recommend testing each and every time before you give insulin, to make sure it's safe to do so.

Go to sleep, you can update the spreadsheet tomorrow.

My vet is leaning toward an increase to 3 units but wants to see a better curve. I only have 6 test strips left from the original starter kit. ordered from Amazon and will be here Saturday. I am not good at testing and they time out on me. Can these strips be reused? I read you have to start with a new strip and read other places that they can be used. Just have to let the unit reset.

As long as you haven’t put blood on it, they should be fine to use if the meter just timed out.
We increase in 1/4 unit increments so if the vet suggests an increase tell him you will increase 1/4 unit. My vet used to think I was a bit crazy increasing in 1/4 unit increments as they usually do it in1 unit increments but we have found it much safer to do it in 1/4 unit increments here on Fdmb.

Hello and welcome !

good job with the curve! All data is good data. Personally I don’t agree with changing your kittys feeding schedule when running a curve. On the contrary adding what was fed and when it was fed will give you insight into how your kitty reacts to the food and brings you one step further in the quest to “know thy cat”. (one of many time honored maxims you will hear here) And you inadvertently learned another important time honored maxim “Feed the 40s”.

This forum is the best place for you to learn about managing your kittys diabetes. Hang in there and hang in here.

As far as test strips, it's always good practice to have a spare bottle of strips in a hypo kit for that time you really need it. It doesn't need to be the pet meter AT. Many people here use human meters all the time, so you can pick up a meter and cheaper strips at something like Walmart and tuck that away for emergencies when your other meter runs out of strips. And don't worry about not being good at testing yet. You will get better over time as both of you get used to it and Gracie figures out there is a treat involved.

What/where to get syringes with 1/4 markings? The ones I have don't even have 1/2 markings.

You eyeball the 0.25 unit changes. 1/4 unit marked syringes don't exist. If you look at the Sticky Note on Fine Dosing, there are some pictures.

She is always hungry! Every 2 hours!! Giving 1/3 to 1/2 can of 3 oz. FF at a time. Are Temptations okay to snack on? I read earlier about calorie counting. I will start tracking that too.

No, Temptations are high in carbs. Go out and buy some freeze dried pure meat treats. PureBites in one such brand. You can get freeze dried chicken breast, low in calorie and carbs. Or boil/bake a chicken breast and cut it into treat sized pieces.

Thank you. Will do.

For snacks there’s freeze dried protein. You can find shrimp, turkey, chicken. If you aren’t opposed to it there’s raw duck too. Max who was eating fancy feast loved lamb.

Cheese? Egg yolk? Any kind of meat, pork, beef cooked without spices.(but skip the barbecue sauce)? Fish? sushi or cooked
Cook up a little chicken and sprinkle it with a tiny bit of catnip? Other ideas from the Health links/FAQS index thread.
List of Low Carb healthy treats

Halo liv-a-little freeze dried treats or bonito flakes (like the ones form asian groceries).

Chicken necks from the butcher. Or organ meats like liver, heart, kidney
