Oops, I shouldn’t been so hasty to post. It is a concern when also taking opioids which I don’t think any of our kitties are taking .

Anyway, this might be helpful to some peeps here.

I don’t think there’s enough information about the dosing. I’m going to see if I can track down some of the pain docs or the PharmD I work with to see what they know. I often see gabapentin and oxycodone prescribed for pain management in humans.

Pregabalin (which is Lyrica) is prescribed for shingles pain.

I have a whole prescription in my cabinet. Didn't do anything for my pain so I quit using it.

Bobbie - I do see "Bupe" mentioned (buprenorphine) around here, so I'm glad you posted this. Now I'm reading what you linked, too.

I forgot that Bupe is considered an opioid.

Ollie took both at same time for awhile. Had no problems.

It might be a long term thing or at higher dose. Not sure what a high dose would be for a cat.

3 yrs ago my kitty Jai had a severe reaction from one dose of Bupe. He went into respiratory arrest. Nothing my vet did helped & he was euthanized. (the emergency clinic had told me, the night before, that he had lung cancer & said he was in pain . Told me to give him the bupe)

The day after he was euthanized they called to let me know it was a mistake,he did not have cancer. Just an infection that could be treated! This is one of many reasons I am very careful not to use any meds unless I research carefully first. Mistakes are made more often than we even know.

This is very sad! I’m so sorry that happened to your baby.

I don't know Bobbie. Ollie was on 25mg of gab q12hrs and 0.3ml of bupre q12hrs. So I have them 6 hrs apart from each other.

I've read from people, their vet will give 100mg gab for sedation before vet visit. That's seems like a lot to me, but have no idea.
