Yesterday's condo

Saw some more greens last night. Freckles was more like her cuddly pre FD self for the 4 hours of sleep that we got.
Will check her numbers in 30 min.
Have ? mark on just to get some eyes on us this morning.

edit: may end up taking Freckles to the city with me. If she comes with me to the city, I can check her @ +1.5, @+2, @+2.5 then again @+6

Still 160 @ +11.5

I think 160 is a shootable number if I take Freckles with me to the city and am able to monitor for a bit this morning. Thoughts?

She will like a change of scenery. Once there then what do you do with her? Do you leave her with a friend? Have in stroller so she is with you at all times? Have one of those backpack carriets?

Yes lots to pack when taking kitties out for an extended time. You never know what will be needed.

A relative has recently moved out of their house so Freckles has the whole place to herself. I should look into getting her recognizedas a therapy cat and then she can come to work with me. :)

On my commute home today, I was wondering when a cat isn't that use to greens and sees just a few blues in her cycle, would steering away from a green (keeping them in the blue with food) avoid high bounces later on?

Second question, which is more desirable, seeing the odd green here and there or having mostly blues?

I understand that healing occurs in the green, but I'm also wondering if the healing is 'undone' when kitty gets in the pinks or higher later on in the cycle or the next day?

Hi Judy
The more you can have Freckles in green numbers, the more used to them she will get, and hopefully will bounce less. Cats bounce from green numbers (or higher numbers) if they are not used to being in normal numbers any more, and they think that the higher numbers are the normal numbers...and the cat thinks it has to 'save itself' by dumping the glucose and regulatory hormones into its system.....and then comes the bounce.

If remission is your goal then the more Freckles can be in green numbers, the more healing will take place. Some cats bounce all the way to remission so bounces do not stop remission.

To help stop bounces, you can try 'feeding the drop', that is, give some food as the insulin is taking effect. The idea is to slow down the drop in numbers which can trigger a bounce. If you find that Freckles is dropping more than 50 to 75 points an hour, I used to find that was enough to trigger a bounce in Sheba. If you can feed before the drop starts, to slow it down, you can help stop bounces. Does that make sense?

@Bron and Sheba (GA) I have also wondered if I should feed the drop? My Bandit is one bouncy kitty but she doesn't always eat when I want her to. Is it alright to just let her graze at will and let her body just bounce and gradually get used to lower numbers? Is there something as too much bouncing being bad for the liver?

@Judy and Freckles apologies for hijacking your condo!

There are trade offs to steering the curve. One more "advanced" (sort of) strategy for bouncy cats is to use food to prevent them from getting dose reductions. This ideally allows them to spend more time in (closer to) normal numbers. At some point, however, your cat decides they've had enough and numbers drop and you have to reduce the dose. There's no way to predict when that will happen.

I think it helps to keep in mind that bounces are normal. They are annoying to us but unavoidable.

Thank you @Bron and Sheba (GA) and @Sienne and Gabby (GA) . Looking at Freckles' numbers, she is a pretty flat kitty and we really aren't seeing huge drops in numbers from hour to hour. I suppose that every cat has it's moving threshold as what number will cause the liver panic. As long as the bounces aren't 'undoing' any healing that occurs with low numbers we will just add some soft padding to the ceiling of the house.:)
