* sigh*
Clearing a bounce or just being weird....? He was really hungry and vocal this AM but his 3am snack was lighter. I thought he might have gone lower last night, but he had stopped bouncing the week we had all blues it seemed. I guess bouncing can just depend on the cat and the range of numbers...or do they stop bouncing once they've stopped?
I think I want to try the 0.40 again, but I wanna see if I can " find " 0.30, so I can use it if I need to reduce.

I don't think we can answer that since you weren't able to get tests last night (working, I assume?) :(

There's usually a few reasons why cats bounce. And clearing a bounce once, doesn't mean they're "cured" of bouncing. It's a reaction to lower than usual numbers.

But the reasons:
  • seeing lower than usual (for them) numbers.
  • numbers "diving" or going low too fast and dramatically.
  • staying in lower numbers for longer than usual (for them).
Sometimes bounces can be delayed too. A couple of times, Ming had a nice long stretch of greens. His numbers then started rising to yellows/blues. Then a day or two later, he gives me an ugly PINK. I usually chalk that up to a delayed bounce.

Apologies if I'm already explaining something you already understand: but think of bouncing as the body's natural reaction and defence against low numbers. Since our cats are diabetics, ANY low number they're not used to sets up DANGER alarms. And the longer they've been in high numbers, just how low = low to kitty won't necessarily be traditionally "low". A cat that's used to blacks and reds might think pink numbers are low. Overtime, when they spend more and more time in lower numbers, their bodies will get used to it and bounce less. That's what happened to Ming. He still bounces, but he clears them quite quickly instead of staying high for DAYS.

I wanna see if I can " find " 0.30,
Did you take the caliper plunge yet? Come on and drink the kool aid if ya haven't already:p In all seriousness...I'm a caliper hating fool, but it does take the guesswork out of those micro-doses. I dislike having to use them tremendously! But, I don't second guess my doses anymore. It's a love/hate relationship that you will learn to appreciate...assuming you're not using them yet.:)

Finally someone else who I see is using Soulistic food:).....

I found that BFF PLAY-Pate Lovers by Weruva is quite similar to Soulistic. I feed Yoyo also Checkmate and Topsy Turvy by BFF PLAY Pate Lovers. (When I called Soulistic with questions on carbs and phosphorous they also had info on all Weruva food so I think they are the same with Soulistic food only being made for Petco). Either way I am happy with the food, the carbs and the phosphorous counts.

Hope Si am stops bouncing for you. Have a good night!!

Since you say you are following SLGS, you definitely wouldn't increase with those greens you have been seeing. Actually 87 earns a reduction.

What a cat wants to do about bouncing is entirely up to them. All we can do is try to get them to spend as much time as we can in normal numbers. An unusual pink, or unusual pink for Makota after he's been bouncing can often signal a drop. Some cats like to give a "high before the low".

With no preshot data, and no data from last night, it's a guessing game if he's bouncing today. Flat yellows can also signal action to follow. Hope you can get a test in tonight.

No, not anymore. I was tried using calipers, but couldn't figure out calibrating them and I wasn't able to get help with it so I stopped. I use the pictures for microdosing as a guide with a magnifying glass. Guess I'll see if I can revisit the dosing again , maybe with better calipers.

yesterday

I need to change my signature..I am not really following SLGS anymore since we kept running out of room for reductions but aren't ready for OTJ. There just isn't anything in-between the two dosing methods, so I was trying to modify TR to work for us while keeping in mind that parameters for Pet meter use. So, I think taking reductions for numbers less than 70 on ( 3 instances) is close since 68 is the cut off number on the AlphaTrack.
I forgot to update my SS last night I think, I put the values in my title but not in the columns. He was flat 130s pretty much yesterday during his cycle. I worked overnight so, I don't have overnight values.

I was just confused about bouncing since it seemed like he had stopped the week of the 5th, even though I found out we were seeing some lower numbers overnight a few days into that dose. I guess I was just unclear on if cats will continue to bounce or if they stop bouncing once they get used to regular BG values.

No..that makes sense, I think I mistakenly thought the because he didn't bounce the week of the 5th where we held steady blues, but go some lower numbers overnight that his body had adjusted to those semi-low numbers and maybe got the bouncing out of his system. I could see having numbers in the 100s, but then having a week of higher than normal BGs being leading to bouncing again with lower numbers- especially with a fast onset.
