Crazy question... can Zobaline cause increase in BG?

Not that Sally's numbers have been that low, but as I'm thinking about it... it seems that around the same time I started giving her 1 Zobaline pill a day, we started getting very high numbers, especially in the 500+

Yesterday I did home curve testing and saw the first 200's in a while. I was thinking over it and realized that I had forgotten to give her a Zobaline pill yesterday. I gave her one today, and her PMPS was "HI" meaning back up to 600+. (I didn't test btwn AMPS and PMPS, just to give her a break from the curve)

Perhaps I'm over thinking it, but I did pull it up on Amazon, and only one reviewer mentioned their cat had higher BG numbers....

This was recommended by our vet and was somewhat difficult to find. Within 24 hours of starting this supplement our cat started exhibiting all the signs of high blood sugar. Increased hunger, giant leap in water consumption (5x) and urination (5x). It was like we took a giant leap backwards in our blood sugar management. After two weeks we stopped and behavior returned to normal.

Anyway, I understand how great Zobaline is for neuropathy, but has anyone else noticed any negative side effects like this? Sally's back legs are not that bad, but I had noticed she has difficulty jumping on the couch, so that's why I started using it.

I think I will hold off on it for now and see if it makes a difference in her numbers. Or maybe I should go to half a pill?
 
You might want to note in the Remarks column the date you started Zobaline. It's easier to see those sorts of patterns if you note any time you change anything like food, medications, new vial/pen of insulin. Personally, I never saw a difference with Neko - it's just B12 and folic acid.

I think Sally is so high tonight because she's bouncing. She dropped pretty fast last night. Might even have seen blue a couple hours later.

thanks. I've read up on bouncing, but I can't seem to wrap my brain around how to recognize it yet.
 
Trish - I started giving Zobaline August 5, after Tina was diagnosed July 3. I am thinking I'll never stop it . . . she is close to walking and jumping normally again, after practically living on the couch for months. Controlled BG gives the best chance of healing neuropathy, but I love adding the Zobaline too.

I never saw or thought about it raising BG.

I'm probably just overthinking it. Thanks! I really would like to see her back to jumping normally again :-)
 
I don't have an answer to the OP's question, but in doing my own research on Zobaline, I see it has several added ingredients: moncrystaline cellulose (a complex carb... not sure if it would impact BG?), stearic acid, calcium silicate, croscarmellose sodium, and magnesium stearate. I wonder if an alternative Methylcobalamin that didn't have so many added ingredients might be a better option? I was looking at this one in particular: Amazon link. I would love to hear the thoughts of more knowledgeable diabetic cat owners.

@SnowKat click on the link above, and you can find a safe option -- it is Vitacost B12, but I don't know if there are possibly additives in that (wouldn't think, but I don't know)! It is missing the folic acid that Zobaline has, but that can be added separately.
