01/09 Chanel AMPS 236 PMPS 356

It could be a pimple, sometimes Mowgli gets a little acne. Cats can get cystic acne just like humans. Another possibility could be an allergy, any house plants? The spca has a list of plants toxic to pets.

I hope it’s just something simple like that :bighug:

No plants in the house, except her pet grass she always has. No pimples, the area looks smooth. Could be an allergy to Levemir? In humans, one of the side effects of Levemir is swollen face or lips. The eosinophiles are just ok, 400s.

I thought of eosinophiles also! Did you look in her mouth, is the tongue and palate OK? Was she swollen before going to the vet? Maybe an allergy to something at the vet? New food? Does it seem itchy?

Did not look into her mouth but she does not seem itchy. I will look today at lunch. No, she was perfectly ok before going to the vet. I am entertaining more and more the idea of having the vet coming at home. No new food either.
I will try to take a picture of it at lunchtime.
Anything that I can give her over the counter: an anti-inflammatory agent, maybe?

Laura, reach out to Marje about Chanel's panel results from yesterday, I'm sure she can help. @Marje and Gracie
Have you contacted the vet to see if they have any ideas on what could cause her lip to be swollen? Check her gums around that area also just in case.

I did contact the vet, but no feedback until now. I will try to take pictures, not sure I will succeed with the gums but at least the lip.

@Marje and Gracie , could you please take a look at Chanel's metabolic panel when you have time? Now, after the vet visit she has her lower lip swollen. I made no changes in her food, just the insulin change from Lantus to Levemir. She gets her Frontline every month.
I will try to take some pictures at lunchtime and post them. I emailed the vet, no feedback until now.
The GI panel should be in next week.
Thank you very much.

My old guy used to get a swollen lower lip every once in a while and I initially wondered if it was a mosquito bite or such but then it occurred in winter. Each time I'd plan to go to the vet, it would be subsiding the following day so never got a definitive diagnosis but the guess was it was a rodent ulcer. If it's not open, oozing or bothering Chanel, I'd observe it and see if it starts to improve on its own by tomorrow.

I think it is bothering her because she ate almost nothing today. It is not oozing, looks red. I guess I will have to look much closer today when I get home.

It'll help us help you if you transcribe the lab results to the Labs tab on your spreadsheet. This include changing the default ranges to whatever your lab uses.

Nice bit of green last night!

@Wendy&Neko Sorry for not being able to do it. I will update the lab SS tonight when I get home. I went home during lunchtime just to get her BG (263, higher than morning AMPS 236), took pictures of her lip (attached) and fed her. Then, back to work.

Ouch. Poor baby! In all the years I’ve been here, I don’t recall any cat ever having an allergic reaction (especially on the mouth) to Levemir or Lantus. I never say “never” but just haven’t seen it.

Yes I’d be happy to look at the labs when you have them posted on the lab tab. If you can please bold the ones that are abnormal in case I missed something. I did take a cursory look and didn’t see anything at all that raised a red flag in the Superchem. The triglycerides are high but that often comes with FD. Nothing to worry about there. Insofar as white blood cell counts, I try to not get into interpreting those because they can be off for so many reasons. It’s best to work with your vet on any WBC counts that are off.

I changed the food, back to high carb because it is tried and tested and she never had a reaction to that. She is trying to eat but it does bother her. If that lip will still be swollen in a couple of days, it is either something in the house that gave her that lip, or maybe an insulin reaction. If it goes away, it must be the food, which would be really sad because she liked that food and it did not have too much carb either. :(

@Marje and Gracie , thank you so much Marje for the feedback. Thank you @Sonia & Leo :) so much too. Not saying it is Levemir, trust me I do not want that. It is just that I am aware that this is the last change, although I do not see why a reaction like this would come after almost 7 days. An allergy reaction is rather a quick thing in my opinion. Besides, she does not skin twitching on Levemir and not biting or scratching and I love Levemir for that.
I will add them in the LABS tonight and let you know about it.
As for her triglycerides, I am thinking omega but since I want to keep her from any potential allergens and since Chanel is not into fish, I was thinking maybe krill oil? Anybody used something like that for their fur babies?
@Wendy&Neko the GREENS were AWESOME! She was playing ball and jumping on them and biting the feathers. It is likely we will not see those GREENS for a while since I put her on the old dry food to make sure it is not a food allergy to the new food. But I hope that if I can keep up with the feeding schedule and feed her wet food as much as she can take, maybe she will eat less of the dry food. Still looking into a remote job, not only because I want to change to wet food, but I really believe she would be doing much better if I were at home to cuddle with her and spoil her. It is difficult to be home alone and as a cat she cannot even turn on the TV to watch something. All she can do is eat and sleep.

You might want to try Moxxor instead. We used Nordic Natural Omega Pet 3 but my boy had a sensitivity to fish/fish oil so we started using Moxxor at the recommendation of my vet. It’s green lipped mussel and Tobey has no issue with it. It’s a great source of Omega 3 and I also feel I am now not contributing to overfishing :) I give it to both my cats even though they are both young and healthy.

Sounds great, I will order it. And when we get to order the treadmill, I will post movies for everybody to have some fun. I am sure she will have tantrum after tantrum, but who knows, maybe she will be the next one to feature into a Peloton commercial, although I would see Luci in that rather than Chanel. After all, Luci looks photogenic and happy with the cast, so definitely she can work out a Peloton commercial with grace and confidence. Right @Sue and Luci ?
The doctor suggested Benadryl? Any opinions or previous experiences?

Poor Chanel..whatever else could happen to that poor girl?

I'm not sure Luci would want anything to do with any exercise equipment - she's a pretty lazy girl...only now and then she gets the zoomies and runs back and forth and all around acting crazy...who can understand what that's all about? It's fun to think about though...once she did hide underneath the treadmill...I'm not sure how she did it...but she squeezed right under there - all I could see were her big yellow eyes...kinda dark under there!

I hope you can get Chanel's lip sorted out -whatever it might be.

I am waiting for my husband to bring the Zyrtec and Benadryl. I will give her Zyrtec though. As I said, I put back the HC dry food (my heart is crying, after the two hours of GREENS last night), but I have no choice but to try and see what was the issue, if I will ever find out. Meanwhile, I am on a hunt for any spider or bug and hopefully her lip will solve itself in a couple of days (with a little help from meds though). I left the new dry food outside too, in case she want to eat. After all, she is smart enough to know what agrees with her.
I was hoping for some relief last night seeing the values, not anymore. Such is life...
