1/5 Loudogg AMPS 96 +6 66 - Lou's a jerk...

Hello everyone,
I was hoping to provide a reduction update earlier, but Lou failed with a blue on the 7th day in greens. So we continued on the 0.5u dose. He technically earned a reduction on January 3rd from 7 days in greens, but I didn't realize it until after I'd dosed him yesterday morning. I figured one more day at 0.5u wouldn't hurt anything, but he randomly popped a 123 last night! No idea where that came from. If it would have been under 105, I probably would have still reduced, but 123 is higher than I was willing to play with. It felt like a shaky place to attempt a reduction, so we're still on 0.5u for now. So moral of the story is Lou's kind of a jerk, haha. I won't complain too hard about continuing to dose on the line though.

In other news, Bella looks like she's still lost weight, but Caleb feels like she might have plateaued for now. Although money is tight, we've decided to go ahead and schedule her a dental, which is on January 15th. We've decided to apply for Care Credit to help pay for it. She seems to be eating better lately, but I think it has something to do with me taking the time to really slurry her food to cut down on chewing. Even with that, she's been holding her head totally perpendicular to the floor while eating at times, so I think the dental should help wonders either way. I think I'll let her heal and bring her in to the vet again to see what else is up. I thought I'd have enough time to bring her in before the dental, but I was pleasantly surprised when we were able to get her in in weeks instead of a month or more.

I hope you all have a wonderful day and your kitties surf safely. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

You might want to see if your vet does a price reduction in February for dental month.

It's entirely your call but if it were me, I would take the reduction. With TR, it doesn't need to be solid green. The numbers need to be mostly normal range and one slightly out of range number is fine. I'm guessing you didn't think to re-test to see to see if it was a meter or strip error.

So good to hear from you. Not a bad report overall, there is always something going on with kitties.

My vet gives 20% off dentals in February. Of course you need to make appt months in advance because of it.

I didn't know that was a thing! I'll send them an email and see if they do.

I asked Caleb, and he did retest (he usually doesn't), but apparently he was at 124, then 123. (I should update the spreadsheet) Would you still reduce in that case? I would have, but it being so high really threw me. I'd hate to reduce and then have to increase him right back up again. Although I know that's not the end of the world.

IMHO, you are looking at one number out days worth of green numbers. Lou's numbers were back in the greens by AMPS and if they were going to rise, they would have continued up given that the insulin is wearing off by pre-test. I think that blue numbers was a blip. If this were my kitty, I'd reduce the dose.

I didn't know that was a thing either! Good to know - as we're hoping to get pre-dental labs done tomorrow...

Amanda! It's good to hear from you again! I'm glad to know Lou is still giving you a hard time - LOL - not really - but he's looking overall quite good! Sorry to hear about Bella...I hope the dental helps her to get to eating all her fuds without holding her head funny...

Hang in there! Stop in and visit again soon :)

Nice to see you Amanda!! I laughed when I saw your post title but now I understand!!! Lou, how could you wait until the very last test to pull a blue?!!! :joyful: Good thing you're such a sweet kitty!!!
It's good to hear that Bella is eating and better that you got an early dental apt. Take care, hope to get some good news about Bella. :bighug:

Thanks a lot for your thoughts Sienne, I really appreciate it. I've kept going back and forth, but I think you're right. He technically earned a reduction. It was my oversight that caused us not to reduce yesterday, so I think I owe it to him to try out the 0.25u. I'll reduce him tomorrow. Wish us luck! :D
