ood Morning Everyone ! TGIF !
Well Salem stayed mostly in the green yesterday Amps. Pmps he was in the blues.
not bad . I had slightly decreased His dose by only a hair since he was at times getting close to 50 at one time he hit 51 so when i fill hes syringe i usually line the dosage up with the plunger right under the 2 unit mark on the syringe . So on the 12-11-19 when filling his syringe i lined the dosage with the plunger right on top of the 2 unit mark to see if just a hair less of insulin would keep him still in the greens but not close to 50 . Im continuing to fill the dosage with the plunger on top of the 2 mark so he may not get so low . I didnt want to go back to the 1.75 unit since he was doing so good with the 2 units. Crossing my fingers. I keep a journal since the remarks box doesnt have much room to take notes to better explain things that i do when things happen . I think the remark box doesn't allow me to explain enough when things are done or happen . Since it happens sometimes all morning or all day . Im continuing to check hes ketones once a day . Everyday it shows .1 mml . If you search the internet it shows the levels when testing ketones with a meter that this level of ketones is not ketonic for cats. Heres a good website i have been reading

Heres a chart for the levels on the same website.

Looking good!! Hopefully this trend will continue in the safe greens!!

How long or whats the average of time or years if your cat ever goes in remission from diabetes ? How many years does it take ? The one vet at the hospital told me he thinks Salem will be more than likely diabetic for the rest of his life ? I dnt believe it ? Cause before Salem got in insulin we started ib the food diet . With the diet change alone Salems sugar went from the 400-500 mg to the 200s . I was testing off and in before he got on insulin . I took him to the vet i had concerns from the time he was only a few yrs old he might end up being diabetic . I wish only then i had took him to be tested then instead of this past year maybe he would have had a better chance of going in remission . Money has always been tight so i didnt have that option to take him to the vet when i wanted too always .:confused:

There isn't any time frame on it. It is said if caught and treated early the best chance is in the first year. The longer the diabetic the longer it can take. Sadly, some like Ollie never will, but can still have a great quality of life and be well regulated (still work in progress here).

Same here for Luci - I suspect she was diabetic long before I realized what was going on with her. She was frequently drinking water....and then that would stop - and then she'd be back at the water for a while...it was kind of off and on - didn't think much about it...

But then when she really wouldn't leave the water alone I thought it's time for a check up...and it was downhill after that...she was diagnosed and my life hasn't been the same since...but she's doing really well considering. She's just going to be on insulin for the rest of her life - and I still love her the same - so it could happen and it might not...no way to know.

I love that you're keeping a journal - I do too. It's important for to you be able to record all sorts of stuff freely...

Take care!

Can someone explain to me about now that salems in the greens where he needs to be. whats happening now will these numbers get stable where they stay above fifty after hes body gets use to it ? I know im trying to find his lowest numbers (naidir) in order to see if hes dosage is good . am i suppose to be making sure they dnt go below 50 without food influence ? Then i know this is the right dosage ? If not decrease ? Why go back to 1.75 units we tried that already or is there a between dosage ? Or if i go back to the 1.75 unit will it work this time ? What is my goal now that hes in the greens to hold him no lower than 90 ? So that hes numbers go flat 90 all day preshot and all ? Do i make any sense ? I just dnt know actually what im trying to achieve here besides being in the greens ?

Looks like he may be on the verge of earning a reduction...if you don't give him any more HC food and can monitor frequently you'll catch him if he dips below 50 - at that point he could earn a reducie! Yeah!! Then the trick will be to see if he can hold those green numbers at that reduced dose.

Ok gotcha .. i guess What he needs to be able to do is hold those greens on his own . I guess when yall say hes numbers are flat it must mean hes holding his numbers about the same number ranges close to the same numbers until he goes up when the insulin wears off until his next shot . Im getting it . Lol I think i just learn something new today . Lol i will try reducing then hes dose probably tonight or should i wait until tomorrow morning ? I hope at 1.75 units he holds those greens !! Thanks!!:):):)

Yes, it's a bit like walking a tightrope...just kinda got to watch him to see if he'll hold his own - he's been looking pretty good in those greens - but hasn't really earned a reduction...make him work for it :)

Ok i will lol hes liking the hc food i said no this morning i gotta see how you do with these numbers first lol he got mad started turning his head at me lol he throws stuff off my coffee table to let me know hes still hungry ! I knew he wanted the beef gravy his favorite .. hes trying not to eat his meaty pate .. Bad kitty :p:smuggrin::cat::woot::kiss:

Nice job testing and shooting the regular dose today! I hope you're ready to watch Salem tonight...he may give you a run for your money this evening...

If he does slip lower than 50 he'll have earned his reduction...good luck!
