I do realize that I will need to start shooting lower numbers since Scratches has been doing much better with her numbers lately and I know I'm skipping way too many shots since her pre shot numbers are far below her normal. However, I work two jobs, I get one day off per week, and I can't always come home to check her if she's too low. For this reason I can't shoot lower numbers yet. Any ideas of what I need to do? I'm very proud of her for giving some great numbers lately. Do I just need to buck up and shoot? Should I shoot less insulin? I'm barely getting six hours of sleep a night as it is and it's really hard for me to stay up with her when/if she crashes. I just need some ideas of what to do. Her numbers are telling me something good may be in store for her in the future if I do things correctly. I can tell these last couple weeks how good she feels!

I saw your FB post. The board can be slow sometimes. Hopefully someone will be around to help you soon:)
In your condo title, could you include Scratches name and a ? in the prefix(drop down menu). It may draw some more attention.
I wish I could offer some advice besides measeley housekeeping tips:oops: You'll get this whole sugar dance figured out, hang in there:bighug:
I hope you have a wonderful day and get the answers you're seeking:cool:

Update. She's had no insulin since 5pm last night (18 hours ago) and she's sailing right through the day so far at 160 and less. Curious to see what her pre evening test will look like. This isn't a typical day for her...hmm this is why it's so difficult for me to make the decision to shoot when her pre shot is below normal. Sometimes she spikes without a shot..this is the first time I'm noticing she's staying the same numbers without the shot. Why's this gotta be so difficult? Ahhh

Do you follow TR or SLGS? I have been using SLGS because we can’t monitor during the day. The no shoot for SLGS is 90.

I was following slgs, then it was recommended I switch to tr, but then I started a new job and had to switch her dosing schedule all around so that was all messed up for a while, then her insulin went bad and we missed a few shots in between getting the new one.. anyway. I'm trying to get back on slgs bc of my work schedule it just fits me better and I'm more comfortable with it. However, my question here basically is I'm working all the time and can't be home to test her if I shoot an already low number, understanding the no shoot number is 90, that doesn't really help me bc I can't stay home to monitor her when her pre shot number is already too low for my to comfortably shoot and leave her for the day...so I'm in a predicament.

Like today for example...I didn't shoot this am and her sugar hasn't gone up at all yet..so if I did shoot, would she be hypo right now?? (Again, if this were to happen I would be at work all day)

It’s better to be too high than too low. I have slowly started to shoot at lower numbers - it takes time. And we have skipped a few when uncertain and unable to test because of work. I think the lowest number i have shot is 115. It takes some time and experience. Don’t beat yourself up. Each time this happens is a learning experience.

Another thing you may want to consider is an automatic feeder so if Scratches is low, you can leave food out for her when you go to work - would that help out at all?

Not necessarily. I know it's scary and when you first start insulin and see something like 300 dropping to 150, your brain thinks "OMG...If I shoot a 150, she'll drop to zero!"....it doesn't work that way.

I second the idea of getting an autofeeder. If you can get a +2 each cycle, that can help predict where she'll go later in the cycle and you can load it up with the food you want her to have

Okay. It's not the food I worry about. She snacks on her breakfast and I leave her a snack before I leave for work and she never eats it all. She's always got plenty of food. It would be maybe if she needed Karo or gravy food and I wasn't home. I'm a nervous Nelly as it is. She's at 294 now so obviously I give her a shot. If she's 150s again in the morning, which she very well might be according to her recent numbers, should I shoot? I'll be at work all day.

I always get a +2 so that way I know what she will do while I'm at work. I will look into an auto feeder I think it'll help ease my mind a bit. This kitty is my world. I'm sure we all feel that way . I guess I'll just have to try and shoot a lower number soon and see what she'll do. I won't know until I try it!

Well it'd be nice if she'd do it when you have a few days off!! Of course she's a cat...they don't tend to do what we'd like them to do...especially "on command"....LOL
Omg. I know haha. I'll keep my fingers crossed it happens Saturday evening. I have Sunday off so I can stay up with her and I'll be home Sunday. But you know it won't work out that way!
