New to lantus - help in dosing

Must he eat at +2? He ate 3/4 can at pre-shot. I don’t think he’ll again so soon.
No he doesn’t have to.
But we do want him to have a couple of snacks during the cycle. During the first about 7 hours is best as that is when the insulin is usually strongest. You can work out which times suit you best.

Ok that’s not a problem. He’ll usually eat at +4 and +7.

Can you also put in the remarks column when you feed him and number of carbs in food please? thx
We test every hour ? Till when? Ok will indicate when he eats but I don’t know carbs %. But I do know they are less den 10%. One of the members calculated for me 2 years ago and I’ve not changed his food.

Ok. Just say low carb food. That’s fine.
We will need to test for a while to see how he goes. And he wasn’t very high to start with. Is that ok?

Let’s see what she is at +3
I can stay up later if needed.
U sure? I feel so bad. Jebat is a boy. poor fella has many pokes today. Giving him subcut in a minute. Too many illnesses. He also has thickened small intestine but not progressing fast so vet is not worried.

The subQ can often drop the numbers lower. Can you leave it til later in the cycle?

182 at +3. Went up.
Ok. How much food did he eat at +2?
Edit. I see he had 1/2 can food.

I think you can wait now til +5 to see how he goes.
I will try and find someone to keep an eye on it.
Remember that it takes several
days for the depot to fill and you may not see a lot of movement in the numbers. Some cats respond quickly to the insulin but many don’t so it’s a waiting game.

I haven’t been able to find anyone to keep
an eye on you. It’s still only 8 am on the East coast of U S.
I am going to have to head for bed.
See how he is at +5.
I’m just a bit concerned the subQ fluids might affect the numbers ... but then again they might not.
If he is dropping lower you can feed him some low carb.
We use high carb for under 50.
If you are unsure post and ask for help and change your subject line to reflect your concerns.
I’ll look in tomorrow to see how you went. :)

Ok thanks. It’s midnite where u are. so tmr 5am, I stick to 0.25u if amps is 150 ya.

Ok thanks. Does this flat curve means it’s too Low a dose? U can answer tmr, no urgency. Go sleep.
No it doesn’t mean that. Remember the depot needs to fill for the dose to get to it’s full potential. And his body needs time to adjust to the insulin as it is a hormone not a medication like an antibiotic which works straight away.

Ok we will just have to watch him closely.
I’m going to ask @Marje and Gracie when the best time in the cycle is to give subQ fluids to avoid affecting the BG too much. She may not be around until later but it will be good to know for future reference.
So sorry...busy day today.

It really depends on the cat. Some cats are not affected by subq fluids and some are and it doesn’t look like it affected Jebat today. It never dropped Gracie’s BG either but it did Amy’s cat, Trixie. She usually waited until a bit after mid cycle to give fluids, if I remember.

You're welcome. I hope you get some sleep tonight.
It was a tough day definitely. I was so nervous

Yesterday it didn’t seem to affect but would it change? I mean cld it affect him out of a sudden.

I never say never so, yes, it could. It’s just important to monitor after you give fluids to see what his pattern might be.
