Not a great checkup for cc. On top of everything else she’s got hyperthyroidism now. Her kidney levels have also gotten worse. Not quite needing sub q’s yet but I hate to see such a drastic change in only six months. I’m feeling very sad and a bit emotional about it. I’m leaving in a few min to pick up the thyroid meds. We got the liquid version. Labs are updated in her spreadsheet.

Hi Janet, sorry about her check up, and yes it could be overwhelming. One of my cats has kidney disease, so I know how you feel. He has been in Stage 2 for yrs now. His creatinine has been 2.3 for the longest time Every time I bring him for blood work I hold my breath. He also has seizures for yes but that's under control with phenobarbital and Keppra, hadn't had one in about 9 months now. So have to worry about the phenobarbital level besides his kidneys. I'm hoping the thyroid meds will get him into normal numbers and his next check up will be better

On a positive note, her blood pressure was good at 122. Also her hct is up so no anemia issues.

I’m sorry CC has hyperthyroidism now. It is always a blow when we find out our kitties have another problem.
    BP of 122 is excellent!

i was a bit worried about the blood pressure because five months ago it was kind of high.... even as high as 180 at one point. i thought for sure she was going to go on bp pills. so this 122 was a relief. the tech said she ranged from 120-130 and that was her average. maybe because she dropped two pounds. well NOW YOU CAN stop dropping and maintain your weight, CC. she is a better weight now.... but i don't like that the reason she's losing is because of the thyroid. i thought it was just because we were feeding her lower calorie food!

i certainly will. ya know when i heard i'm like omg, how much more is she going to go through??!!! to see the list of issues you'd think she's on deaths door... but she's happy and fiesty and not showing that she feels bad. i hope she feels as good as she looks. cats are good at hiding things. and i'm terrible about knowing when "it's time". I always let it go on too long.

Yeah, I know what you mean, acro is so very hard on them. :( But it's not her time yet, so enjoy every day! Every extra day with our kitties is a gift.

Sorry, Janet. I hope things stabilize and stay that way for a long time. Hope it's okay to ask here, but I've been wondering... how is your son doing?

he's ok. lost a little more vision since the summer but still ok. we are in touch with the local commission for the blind who will eventually come in and evaluate what technologies could be useful for him at school. for now he can see the board as long as he's in the seat closest to it. Dr. in Philly said it's either Stargart or something very similar. Genetic testing still needs to be done to confirm. He let us know the trials for various treatments are doing well in trials and he's hopeful there will be a treatment in coming years. i hope that's true.

So sorry to hear C.C. has another medical issue to deal with but she's got a great family and is in good hands. You've got a lot to deal with so please do make sure to look after yourself too. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Janet, it’s good to hear from you, though I’m sorry to hear that CC has developed hyperthyroidism. As always, I know that you will take excellent care of her. She’s feeling good now so hold on to that.
I’m glad your son is doing ok and I pray that one of the trials turns out to be a treatment that can help him. :bighug:

Thanks. Yeah took a few weeks off of here so I haven’t been around, but with this new development I thought I should check in. Yesterday I was in Pitty party mode. Today I put my big girl pants on and just deal. Lol

Sorry to hear about the additional issues with your kitty.. The gel maybe your best route as most cats don’t mind it all. Less stress in every way and you get the job done without a struggle. Enjoy every day with your fur babies and loved ones! :bighug::bighug:

Janet, I’m sorry to hear of CC’s hyper-T, but it’s just another disease to manage the best you can. And if anyone here can manage, it’s you! Be thrilled she’s happy and enjoying life. You take such good care of her.

Ear gel was a life saver for us with Maggie with her HCM. The “pill fight” was exhausting for all of us. Just remember to clean the dried goop off her ear weekly.
