Garfield

Hi, I don't know enough to give advice, but I'm sure someone wiser will chime in soon. I haven't seen Garfield on this board before, so I just wanted to say hello & welcome!
ETA: You may want to add a question mark to your thread title so people know you need advice.

Thank you :) i injected him with his normal dose because im up for another 5 hours

Once you have data and experience, you can shoot as low as 50 (human meter), when following TR. When you shoot low, cycles are much flatter. Tonight will be a good data point for you.

Yes I can do that @Chris & China (GA)
Hi Cassandra, when is you next BG test due?

Edit... I see a 3.3 (59). @3.3 (should be +2.5. See post below).. did you feed some more food?
Test again in30 mins and post on here please Cassandra

He's at 3.3 (59) at +2.5....so the food slowed down the drop. I told her to give him another teaspoon of food but try not to freak out and feed him too much.

The food at +2 slowed down the drop at least so hopefully we can get him surfing

I think you could wait until +4 but if your gut tells you to test, there's no reason you can't.

I think the last test was at +3 wasn't it?

Yes

I'm going to take off for tonight since Bron is going to keep an eye on you. If she wasn't available (or someone else), I'd stay as long as necessary but I'd trust her with my own cat so I trust her with Garfield.

You're doing great Cassandra!!

Thank you very much!!!

I'm here.
It took me a minute to work out what was going on. I thought when Cassandra said he was at 3.5 she meant +3.5. Then she said at +4. I looked at the SS and realised she meant 3.5 at +4
I would get a +4.5. It isn't unusually for them to wobble up and down a bit so don't worry. You are testing so are in control.

How are you going Cassandra?
You are doing really well.
Thank you so much Bron! Im freaking out because Garfield is the love of my life and he is so low compared to what he is used to

I know...I do understand. I remember the first time Sheba dropped low. It was before I had joined the forum and found out how to control the drop properly, and I couldn't stop the drop. It was 1 am......I woke up my daughter to move her car which was in the driveway behind my car, and woke up my husband to drive me to the ER. After I had the whole household awake, Sheba stopped dropping so they all went back to bed....very unimpressed.

He is at 4.4 ❤️❤️❤️

He is at 4.4 ❤️❤️❤️
That's good!
When you write it...just so there is no mix up, can you write
4.4 @+4.5
That way we know exactly what is happening.

For the US people I will put in the US number for 4.4 (79)

I would get another test in 30 mins to see how he is doing.
Is that ok with you?
Did you feed him again after the 4.4?
See you in30 mins.

Cassandra, are you able to get a before bed test in each night? Cats often drop lower at night and a before bed test will tell you if you need to get up and test later.
If the number is lower that the Preshot then it is a good idea to get up and check the BG later to keep Garfield safe.

Usually it is higher at around +3 then the preshot. Ill try to test more but im going through test strips like crazy and they are like 65$ usd for a 100 :(

Some Canadians also buy from eBay. I live close to the border and had a US post box so got cheaper strips delivered there. The Bravo meter is another option available on line.

Unfortunately strips are expensive here and cheapest I found were Freestyle Lite for the Freestyle Freedom Lite, Freestyle Lite and Insulinx meters. They run around $80 Cdn for 100 at Walmart. Some folks use Shoppers Drug mart points to help with costs and if you know a senior willing to shop for you, there is that discount to help as well. The only cheaper meter available here as Wendy mentioned is The Bravo. It is only available at Diabetes Express https://diabetesexpress.ca/ and unless you live in the GTA Ontario, it would mean ordering online. The Bravo meter also takes a slightly larger blood sample than some meters (not sure what sample size Contour Next One needs).

There is a newer meter from the US called One Drop that has subscriptions available and it appears it may be available in Canada. A member in the US started using it and thought the pricing was very reasonable. I believe I saw someone in Canada with it in their signature recently. Sorry can't recall name. Might be worth looking into.

After tax and exchange fee, my unlimited strips subscription costs about $200 every three months. Much better than $75 every 2-3 weeks depending on how much I test. And asking for more strips just means pressing a few buttons on the app.

There are cheaper options with different amounts of strips but I chose unlimited.

I'm in Spain and strips here are really expensive too.
The meter I used as my mainstay was the SD codefree, it's got a larger sample size than some, but I didn't find it to be a problem.
The company ships to canada,
I just checked and it would cost about 150USD, to ship 500strips to BC, I guess you would still have to pay taxes on that and not sure if there is any problems with importing test strips with your customs.
