11/21/19 Stasiu 224 vs 353

I bought the Relion prime meter yesterday and did a comparison with the AlphaTrax2 for our premeal glucose this morning- Relion was 353 and AT2 was 224. I am a bit confused because I thought the human meters ran lower than the AT2. I am happy to see a number in the 200s for the first time this morning though!

Nice job with your title this morning!!

It's just about impossible to compare the AT2 to a human meter. The interesting thing that seems to happen is that when you have lower numbers the reverse will be true. You can continue to use both and post both your numbers side by side on your SS. I've compared meters before and so have several other members - the details are all in their SS's so you can look at their results. It's not a consistent 1:1 ratio.

Which protocol are you following TR or SLGS? Looks like Stasiu could use an increase - by .25 - are you home to monitor?

I can’t really say which protocol I’m following- started at 1.25U BID and am up to 5.2U BID. Have been increasing the dose based on his number every 3-4 days or so. We just increased it on Tuesday. I had only been testing premeals and once after a meal at the 4 hour mark, per the vet. After advice on this forum, I started checking more frequently this past Saturday when I do not work. I need to get into the SS and post numbers from the past few days. Numbers are still very high. Today was the first time I saw in the 200s. Trying to shoot as close to 12 hour intervals as we can also. When I work, the timing was more like 14 hours, so I onboarded my husband and have done it for the first time this week consistently closer to 12 hours. Also just changed to all moist Fancy Feast food not too long ago. Hoping this all comes together and starts working soon! But now I bought a human meter yesterday and need to figure that out.

Excellent move to change to Fancy Feast - that will help.

It would be great if you could read over the stickies for which protocol to follow: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/...-low-go-slow-slgs-tight-regulation-tr.210110/

Select one to follow - a lot of newbies chose SLGS - and IF you should chose that one you would change the dose only every 14 cycles or 7 days. That's why I'm asking - so others will be able to make recommendations to you about how to go about getting those numbers down if we're all on the same page.

I agree with you, his numbers are too high...and more testing - especially mid-cycle will help tell the tale about how the insulin may be affecting him. Nice job on the testing yesterday - and as you can see even mid-cycle he's still quite high. I would also recommend that you change doses by .25 increments. The .1 increments are not really enough to make a difference.

Has he been checked for ketones? That is the worry when you've got high numbers for a long time.

Great to hear that DH is on board and can help with the testing! Glad to hear you're testing with the human meter too - the protocols are all written for human meter, they're less expensive to use - especially with the amount of test strips we all go thru. I personally would have had to take out a loan for Luci's strips if we were using the AT2. Just too much testing to afford that method. We use the OneDrop meter/strips subscription - so I don't have to chase strips. I work full time too (from home) and some days are crazy. I have to set a timer to remind me when to pop up and test Luci - yesterday was a day full of testing...and work...somehow we manage to get thru it in one piece...

Looking forward to seeing how Stasiu progresses. Hope you have a great day Joanna!
