It is very helpful! I just did a consult with a holistic vet out of Boulder & then a vet I have worked with from Cornell Feline Hospital told me to look at Ellevet. It is currently the only one with actual clinical studies. They have & are currently working with Cornell as well as UF on additional research. They have liquid form & provide capsules to put it in if your cat doesn’t like the taste. Pre filled capsules should be available through the company by the end of this year or hopefully early next year. The holistic vet out of Boulder, CO has their own product, but endorsed Ellevet as well. I will attach the link for Ellevet. Both products are organic & from plants farmed on land that was not previously used for other plants that required fertilizer etc.. This is extremely important because the hemp plant will actually clean the soil & the chemicals will end up in the product

Hello,
My cat has bad arthritis in his elbows and now in his knees and hips. He also previously had pancreitits. I'm looking into putting him on pain meds but I was wondering if anyone has any experience using CBD oil to help with his pain?
Thank you!!
Thank you so much. I did not know that about the hemp cleaning up the chemicals in the soil and then being in the product! Thank you for the link and the info.It is very helpful! Thank you for this information very helpful. I will try the hartz joint chew and the green lipid mussel as well although he's tough when it comes to eating these kinds of things. I hope I have the same outcome you did! We just started him on Adequan and we may need to start him on insulin again which I was hoping to avoid but his sugar has been in the low 300's. He also most likely has pancreatitis and IBD. I just want him to feel better!liquid is best, the cbd in the capsule will mostly get wasted since only a portion will end up being absorbed into the blood stream (digestive and liver will reduce its potency greatly). if use capsules, you will need a higher MG dose to get the same benefit you would get at a much lower dose with liquid form..when taking by mouth, the cbd is mostly all absorbed into the blood stream IF you put the 2-5 drops (depending on cbd strength) unto the side of their gums to be mostly absorbed before they swallow. like with us humans, we hold it under our tongues for up to a minute for a much faster absorbent rate which in turn takes like 15-20 mins to feel the affects instead of hours.. i use thecbdistillery brand which i like better and cat tolerates and most reputable brands are safety conscious like ellevet sounds to be but, a good cbd full spectrum for pets is no different than a full spectrum cbd for humans from the same company, they are all the same in the end, only thing that makes cbd different is how a brand grows/filters/etc theirs so spending more on a cbd branded just for pets is just a waste of money IMO.
That is so great to hear! You are welcome! I have been using then Ellevet in the capsules & it has made a difference for my other cat who has elbow arthritis.
I will add the Grizzly Joint Aid Hip & Joint Support on my list of things to try! Could you let me know what DM stands for? Thank you! Yeah I'm assuming we most likely have to put him on insulin again not ideal but yes just so he is comfortable and happy! Your T is beautiful!I hope they help as well! I am using the CBD oil & then I have added Grizzly Joint Aid Hip & Joint Support (glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, Hyaluronic Acid, Krill Oil). I decided to try the Grizzly's Joint Aid instead of the Dasuquin, but will be speaking with an orthopedic specialist in the upcoming months to determine which is best. My T, who has DM, has chronic pancreatitis & most likely some underlying IBD. After many attempts of stopping the steroid at different points since diagnosis & it resulting in vomiting, nausea, lethargy (most recently attempt after diagnosis of DM this past May), we have accepted that he will need the steroid & the insulin to be comfortable, healthy & happy. Like you, & especially after this last attempt at d/c of the Prednisolone resulting in him crashing & taking months to get him back to normal, we just want him to feel good & have the best quality of life as possible![]()
Thank you! He’s such a loving guy! Yes agreed very true. That is a good way to think about it.Diabetes Mellitus--DM
Thank you. Nudi looks VERY comfortable AND happy in the picture! Such a sweet face!! I just try to be thankful that I can manage the diabetes with the insulin. I would prefer no illnesses, but if there has to be one or even a few, as long as there is something to manage it/them, I try look at the positive that it isn't a disease where there is no treatment or no great treatment.
I wanted to let you know that I just met with a vet & showed her the Grizzly’s. She is recommending that I change to Dasuquin Advanced for cats as it is specifically formulated for cats with respect to the balance of the supplements:
https://www.dasuquin.com/en/dasuquin-advanced-sprinkle-capsules-for-cats/
I am going to give it a try. She said some owners notice a change within a few weeks while others notice in a couple of months. I figured it will be a good trial before his ortho consult in early February.
Thank you both for such good information. So much to learn and I appreciate the help! I already ended up ordering the CBD oil tincture veterinary strength from Hemp Health 550mg 1 oz. I did this before I got your responses! I'm glad to have your information however for the next time I order. Again so much to learn. I was told to give 1 drop in his food? I'll try dropping right onto his gums as well
That is so great to hear!
i skipped on that one, i try to avoid any soy containing products for my guys since i recall reading is was not good for those with digestive related issues like IBS
I’ve run this by multiple GI specialists out of TAMU, Cornell, UPenn & they do not have issues with this product with cats with IBD. In addition, my vet is a UPenn grad, up on all the data secondary to her cat having issues & would not recommend a product that would aggravate my cats underlying medical condition. With that being said, you have to see how any supplement, or even a food for that matter, effects your specific cat because sometimes a specific cat will have an issue. For this reason, definitely try to add or change one thing at a time. Give it a few weeks to make sure there aren’t any problems. Otherwise, If there are & you have added more than one supplement it will be difficult to figure out which one causes the problem.
I'm interested in how this works long term. This is all completely legal everywhere in Canada but there are still some shady providers for the people that don't want to go through official channels and I really need to know what's in something before I take it or give it to a cat.
Noah was on transdermal BUPE for over two years. He had rotten teeth and only a 10% chance of surviving anesthesia so we went that route. I've just ordered it again for Andy (too long of a story http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/andy-back-home.221709/#post-2479199 ) so that's always an alternative. It never affected Noah's numbers, his balance or appetite and was easy to vary the dosage. Andy is not diabetic.

Have you had your headaches diagnosed as to the cause? I've had many concussions and have always had migraines.mid day headaches I had for years
oh my gosh! I had no idea! I will need to re-read your post again when I give to him. We're on our 4th dose of Adequan and I wanted to wait until that kicked in before I started to CBD oil to know which one was helping. Thanks for the information!gums better, in food you are just wasting the cbd, especially at that 1 drop dose..
one drop is not enough, that is not even 1mg of cbd and will do nada for your cat!! 2.5-5mg per 5lbs is the proper dosing amount.
you take the 550mg cbd strength and divide it by ml/oz (amount of your bottle is 30ml) and divide that number by 25 (there are 25 drops of liquid per ml when using a dropper / 20 when using a ML syringe).
your cbd per drop is .73 per drop if using dropper. so if your cat is say 10 lbs, you will need to give 6-7 drops to get the lowest recommended dose (5mg divided by .733). next time buy a higher strength if you want to avoid having to give this many drops.
