Rosa - that was great leaving her frequent meals like you did - she looks like she might have a nice day, and should stay safe with this recent decrease; hope you enjoy your day, and look forward to getting back home;)
 
So she tested at 280 +7- wonder what her cycle was like during the day?
Also, why does anyone think she tested only 164 at AMPS?
 
Sometimes it takes a day or so for the depot to drain...and that lower number could have been due to depot influence. I agree with Crista, if you can set an alarm and get up and grab a really late night test, it may tell you more - especially mid-cycleish at night...great time to get a test as miserable as that is for mama to get up...it can reveal a lot about what she's doing mid-cycle.

I know- it’s not that I mind getting up- I usually sleep like 3 hours then wake up for 15 minutes every night anyway (just a habit)
I still hate taking her BG because I think it stresses her. I have tried pricking her with just the lancet, no lancet device and I can’t seem to do it right- she flinches badly when I try and poke her free handed. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
 
Of course it hurts to poke their ears but I think with time, they do get used to it. And also our hands get steadier and learn just the right way to hold the needle to poke. Ming still sometimes meows in protest when I poke it wrong but generally, he's fine with it.

I know other members put neosporin after to heal the ear and there's another salve that is used that I can't remember the name of. But I heard it's been discontinued.

Ya I’d rather put something more natural if it’s going to be as often.
When I use the lancing device she’s fine it’s just not as accurate in finding where to poke in the “sweet spot”

Luci and I had a rough time getting started with all this poking business too. So once I realized that this was going to happen and the gravity of it all, I would tell her...in a calm voice - Luci, I don't like doing this either, but I'm trying to save your life - and your life depends on this - it's serious business...so it seemed to calm her and it helped me to understand as well that if we couldn't get a reading, then she couldn't get any insulin. I have to admit it was quite a hurdle...but she really surprised me ... after a while it seemed that she knew that this was something that was helping her to feel better - I know people will think that's preposterous thinking...but seriously, there were times when she'd come and get up on the testing towel and wait for me! I was stunned! I do believe she started to enjoy the attention...and that little poke...well it came and went so fast...and I always use Neosporin afterwards - and now she loves the smell of that and wants to eat the tube!

So you will find a way to make it more tolerable...she senses your determination and how pleased you are with her for sitting still...I'm sure of it...just keep it up..keep testing and tell her what it's all about. I swear these cats are much smarter than we give them credit for.
