Hello,
First off I want to thank every one in this group for all the help I have received.

My cat Nudi has bad arthritis and possibly IBD and pancreatitis. $WAZ5esd5r76tgcz

Thank you! I'm sorry for the weird post! I went to wipe some water off the keyboard and then mistakenly typed that string of letters/symbols and then sent it somehow too! I just posted another post as I didn't know how to delete this one and then I wasn't signed in so I think I need to do it again. Thank you, I will check out that thread for sure! Yes, it's been challenging! I just want him to feel better I feel he is in so much pain. He has bad arthritis so we did our first dose of Adequan 4 days ago and will do his second dose today. Since the first dose of Adequan he seemed to be feeling much better but his sugar has been high (in the low to mid 300's, last night it was 341 but today mid-day it was only 214). I didn't want to start insulin again as I was thinking the pain was causing the high BG and that maybe on the Adequan his BG would go down but now maybe I'm thinking to start him on .5 units of Prozinc again and then build up if he needs more. I hate to give insulin again, he's been in remission since July and I didn't want to add another thing to the mix but now I'm thinking he needs it again.

PS I have been bad about testing regularly just once at night ususally. I have a toddler and a busy life but will get more regular with this!

Hello,
Thank you to this group. I appreciate all the support I have received!

I just started my cat on Adequan for arthritis pain and he also most likely has pancreatitis and IBD. He gets his second dose of Adequan tonight. His sugar has been high, usually in the low to mid 300's. Last night it was 341 which is the highest it's been. Today mid-day it was 214. I hate to start insulin again (he's been in remission since July) but now with his numbers being high for over week (mid 200's to mid 300's) I believe this is what I need to do? I was hoping the Adequan would help bring his numbers down and so wanted to wait a little longer to see if it would and I wanted to check in here first as I hate to add another thing to the mix. We will also be giving him CBD oil (it's been ordered and currently in the mail). But I will give insulin if he needs the extra support right now I was thinking of starting him back on his Prozinc .5 units and going up from there if needed. Maybe I'll see what his BG is tomorrow night after giving the 2nd dose of Adequan tonight and if it's still high give it to him then.

PS-I have been bad at testing his BG usually just once at night, today we also did mid-day. I will be better about this!

It's certainly possible that the pain is causing a rise in BG numbers. Arthritis is also an inflammatory process that can cause a stress response. The adequan will probably take a while to work. It may be that you need to give Nudi's pancreas some support until the pain is better managed.

No problem ;)

You probably do want to start him back on a small dose of PZ. Try 0.25u twice a day and see how he does. That might be a little low but he is getting into some green numbers on his own. Be sure you always get a preshot and at least 1-2 tests a cycle in addition.

You might also want to post on the PZ board where there are more PZ users.

You might want to talk to your vet about a low dose of oral Buprenex. I did that with my old guy who had bad arthritis for years and it really made him feel so much better and he had no side effects. Adequan didn’t help my boy,

Good luck. I hope some of those suggestions help your boy.

I merged your posts :)

Thank you so much! I think I will start him on the low dose of Prozinc. I will also post in the Prozinc thread. I will ask about the Buprenex too. My vet said she wouldn’t necessarily recommend Buprenex for long term pain management she did not say why. Maybe I will give him a low dose of this until the Adequan kicks in. He seems to feel relief and better on the Adequan (this is after two doses) but still has a bad limp. I wonder if it would be ok to have him on both the pain meds at the same time? Thank you!

Adequan isn’t a pain med so you should be able to give them both. The buprenex can cause constipation but it never did for my guy. I don’t understand why a vet would deny a cat pain relief in the form of a very low dose. My kitty was a big guy and did great on 0.1ml bid.

good luck!! :):)
