Hi everyone,

I wanted to update you guys yesterday, but I was soooooo tired I went to bed at 9 or 930 PM last night. I have been late to work everyday this week, but thankfully my new job is very understanding. They have let me leave work and come and go for Lily. I made up hours this week by coming in later in the day. Yesterday I put in 10 hrs to make up time. I got some exciting news from my job. Despite being late, they must like me because they offered me a permanent position after my contract is over in January! Ok back to Lily's report about her health.

Thursday 11/14/19 (yesterday)
At 12 AM midnight I was sleeping and I heard Lily start to howl and moan a lot. She seemed to be in so much pain. Usually when she makes these type of noises she will just puke a hairball and feel better. Well Lily would cry doing the moaning off and on. She would go from under my bed, on my desk, the litter box and different spots on the floor. I kept checking on her and petting her. She seemed incredibly uncomfortable. At 3:30 AM I was scared and didn't know what to do. Again I had to be to work at 8AM and my vet doesn't open until then.

At 5 AM I decided to take Lily to the animal hospital and see if they could take a look at her. The doctor examined her and said she would need a IV fluids and meds. She told me it would $800 just for yesterday for me to admit her. (this is without testing or anything else) I asked if there was any way to make the treatment just a little cheaper? The doctor at the hospital said she could give me pain meds, but Lily will need fluids. She even suggested to just take Lily to my vet and they could probably do fluids much cheaper. That was about $169 for the Dr. at emergency to say this.....on positive side note she did give me bupe for pain to take home!!! I told her my vet wouldn't for some reason. She said probably because it's an Opioid. I paid for it to use in the future and now i have it on hand like you guys! I also paid for it and forgot it on the counter and they called and told me this after I got to my vet. lol I was just so frazzled. Thankfully my boyfriend went to pick it up for me later when I was working.

I called my job and told them I would be late and would make up the time. I gave Lily her insulin and checked her blood. At 8AM I took Lily to my vet. They said they would call me with a treatment plan and would keep her overnight. My vet ran Lily's blood work. (basic testing to see how her organs are functioning, not a complete panel) They hooked her up to an IV and also did x-rays.

The Dr. called me last evening and said Lily's blood work was actually not horrible. Her white blood count was not up. So it appears there is no infection going on. Her kidneys were functioning fine and there did not appear to be anything bad. When Lily was fed some food yesterday she did eat some. Shortly after she puked a lot. The X-ray showed a lot of gas, which I was told looks black on the x-ray. The Dr. is thinking Lily either has gas or there is an obstruction from something she could of eaten. (who knew that gas would show up an X-ray?!? I was baffled)

As of now it does not appear to be pancreatitis. Lily was given something called barium I think? They said that they put it in her food. When they do the X-ray, this shows movement in the bowels that they can follow. 2 X-rays were done and the plan is to do another in the morning. The vet will call me today when they know more. If there is something in there Lily might need surgery.

I miss Lily very much! I do trust my vet and I know she is in good care. Hopefully for much less than the Animal Hospital! I am going to continue to pray she is ok. I love her and I am never ready to lose her. I gotta hurry to get ready for work and maybe I can get there on time today.

Thank you everyone for listening and caring about Lily. I really appreciate each one of you that writes back with advice or even just reads these posts I write. Your thoughts and your words are meaningful to me. :cat:

Thank you for the update on Lily. I’m glad she is at the vet and being investigated/ treated.
Please keep us posted as to her progress. She’s a lucky girl to have a mama who loves her so much.
Sending her best wishes.
And congrats with the new job.

Wow! That’s a big update! It must have been stressful
For you but it’s really good that you’ve got a vet that you trust who will help you figure it out! Sending vetty vines for your sweet girl

congrats on the permanent position! That’s so great!! And like others mentioned: a total relief and one less thing to stress about!

What a scary night you must have had with your poor baby. :( I'm very happy to hear that Lily is with your vet that you trust and they're investigating what could be wrong with her.
Sending many many health vines and positive thoughts to Lyly in the hopes that it's nothing too serious and she can be home with you soon. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
She's a lucky kitty to have you, you obviously love her very much. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good one on getting the bupe and congratulations on the permanent job!

I'm glad Lilly is at your vet and they are working to find out the best treatment for her. I hope it's something easy and she'll be home soon. Sending prayers.

Congrats on the job.

Goodness! That is a big update...and I'm sorry to hear she's not doing a whole lot better. That howling/pain issue is so very troubling - and in the middle of the night. At least now you have some pain meds for next time. Let's hope there isn't a next time...but it sounds like your vet at least cares enough to do some treatment and testing - hoping they can find out the root of the problem.

I'm so glad the people at your job are kind and understanding and flexible enough to allow you to make up the time! Congrats on getting the offer to make it permanent. It sounds like a nice place to work!

Sending you prayers and get well vines for Lily as she continues to heal! I do hope your next report will be a more positive one and that Lily's issues can be treated and she'll be on her way back home soon!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Congrats on the new job and lots of vines for Lily

Lily was given something called barium I think? They said that they put it in her food. When they do the X-ray, this shows movement in the bowels that they can follow. 2 X-rays were done and the plan is to do another in the morning. The vet will call me today when they know more. My civie had that done at our vets, he had a herniated diaphragm, basically a hole in his diaphragm, and some of his abdomen contents had ended up in his chest cavity, we had to operate and vet wanted to see how much of his digestive tract had passed into is chest cavity, the barium meal glows on the xray, so you can follow the path of the food as it goes through his stomach, intestine etc, so if there is a blockage they will be able to locate it.

The image below is of our civie Felix, first image on left shows the barium meal in his stomach (it's glowing brightly) and you can see it's in his chest cavity, within his rib cage, (his spleen is also in there/ but that isn't glowing) the second image shows some of the food passing into his intestine, though not easily as the intestine is being 'pinched' and causing a partial obstruction as it passes through the muscle of the diaphragm.
